Warriors Get First Win With Big Second Half

SAN RAFAEL — The Stanislaus State men's basketball team earned its first win of the season Saturday with a strong second-half push, downing Dominican on the road, 61-43, in a non-conference contest at the Conlan Center.

It was only a one-point game at halftime, with the Warriors (1-3) eeking out a one-point lead before the break at 23-22. But then Stan State took off, shooting an impressive 53.9% after halftime while holding the Penguins (1-3) to only seven made shots (7 for 21). The Penguins were also 0 for 9 from 3-point range in the second half.

The Warriors started the second with a 13-2 run that pushed their lead to 12, 36-24, four minutes in. Dominican hung around for the next four minutes, keeping its deficit around 10 points, and then Stan State went off again. A 16-2 run over another four-minute stretch put the game away, giving the Warriors a 24-point, 57-33 lead with 6 1/2 minutes to play.
