The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Board of Presidents announced today that a vaccination policy will be in place for student-athletes competing in the conference beginning in the 2021-22 school year.
Per the CCAA Board of Presidents, all student-athletes participating in CCAA-sponsored sports are required to be fully vaccinated with a
CDC-authorized COVID-19 vaccine in accordance with CDC guidelines. A student-athlete may be exempted from the vaccine requirement if they have received a campus-approved exemption for medical or religious reasons. This exemption will not excuse the student-athlete from COVID testing per guidelines established by local and county health officials as well as any additional campus requirements.
"As CCAA student-athletes return to competition this fall, we will continue to follow CSU policy and additionally, we are instituting this requirement to keep everyone as safe as possible," remarked Dr. William Covino, President of Cal State LA and the chair of the CCAA Board of Presidents. "The data clearly shows that the vaccinations are highly effective and the Board strongly encourages all campus community members to get vaccinated as soon as possible."
Individuals requiring more information on exemptions or student-athletes with questions regarding the vaccination policy, including international students receiving a vaccine outside the United States, should contact their campus athletics administration for more guidance.
