Warriors Downed by Dominican in the Bay Area

SAN RAFAEL — A strong second half push Thursday carried host Dominican past the Stanislaus State men's soccer, as the Penguins emerged with a 6-0 non-conference win over the Warriors at Kennelly Field.

The Penguins (2-0-1) continued their unbeaten start to the 2021 season by scoring their most goals in a game in three years. All six goals came from different players, with two in the first half and four over a 16-minute span in the second.

Christopher Barrios put Dominican up, 1-0, in the 11th minute when the Stanislaus State goalkeeper came out to try and corral a loose ball. Dominic Galletti made it a 2-0 Dominican advantage four minutes later off a pass from Diego Grande.

Stanislaus settled the game after that, not allowing another goal for 55 minutes of soccer. Even after Joe Blakely got the scoring going again for the Penguins in the 70th minute, the Warriors' defense locked down again and didn't allow another score for 10 more minutes.

Finn Rueegger ('80), Brian Sanchez ('82) and Matthew Berlint ('86) all added to Dominican's lead in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Stanislaus State goalkeeper Sebastian Castellanos made four saves in the game.

The Warriors next play at home under the lights at 7 p.m. Sunday against Academy of Art.
