Pilot Sets Career High Again as Warriors Fall at SF State

SAN FRANCISCO — Taylor Pilot set a career high in points for the second straight game Saturday, but the Stanislaus State women's basketball team fell, 69-54, to San Francisco State in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game at SFSU's Main Gym.

Pilot followed up her career-high 18 points on Thursday at Cal State Monterey Bay with 19 on Saturday against the Gators (6-9, 4-7 CCAA). She made 7 of 14 shots (50.0%) and was 5-of-8 from the free-throw line. She also matched her career and season high with seven steals while pulling down eight rebounds. Pilot has stepped up to fill the voids left by Stanislaus State's (11-3, 6-2 CCAA) top-two scorers in Kyanna Davis, who has missed the Warriors' last four games, and Da'Myiah Lewis, who has missed each of the last two.

Liliana Marques posted her second consecutive double-digit scoring game with 11 points, and Amaya Mcleod matched her season high with 10. Stanislaus State had 20 turnovers to San Francisco State's 19, a small margin, but the Gators turned those 20 giveaways into 25 points – including 12 in the fourth quarter alone. San Francisco State earned its victory with a strong push in the fourth quarter. It outscored Stan State, 21-10, in the final period after entering with only a four-point lead. The Gators shot 60.0% (6 for 10) in the fourth while holding the Warriors to 2-for-8 (25.0%) shooting.

Stanislaus State's fading in the fourth quarter could continue to be attributed to its limited roster, only playing eight players on Saturday due to COVID-19 clearances and other injuries. The Warriors are coming off a two-week break in relation to COVID-19 protocols, while SFSU played nine players on Saturday and has played all of its games (four) in the past two weeks.

The Gators were led by 19 points and 16 rebounds from Muirae Gomez, who also added three steals, three assists and a block. Ashley Hart added 16 points and seven boards alongside Gomez's dominating performance, while Jolene Armendariz scored seven points and had eight rebounds.

Stanislaus State's road schedule continues next week when it returns to the coast to face Sonoma State on Thursday and Humboldt State on Saturday. Fans can find all live coverage links on WarriorAthletics.com.
