TURLOCK, Calif.---- Stan State men's soccer sent their five seniors in
Daniel Gomez,
Jorge Lara,
Jack Montejano,
Alex Renderos and
Josh Santillan with a 4-2 victory over Cal State East Bay this afternoon in the Warriors' regular season home finale.
FIRST HALF: Stan State took the early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute when
Chase Koptieff scored the first of his two goals on the day on a ball from
Sammy Villanueva and
Jorge Lara. The hosts had a chance to double their lead, but
Antonio Garcinuno-Ortiz's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Pioneers' Kelekolio Mateo Jr. in the 14
th minute. Cal State East Bay (4-9-5, 2-6-3 CCAA) tied the match in the 18
th minute on a goal by Mateo Didomenico.
Sammy Villanueva and
Finn Hoffmann each had chances to give the hosts back the lead, but each of them had their shot on goal attempts stopped by the Pioneer keeper in the 23
rd and 27
th minute. Cal State East Bay had chance for the 2-1 lead, but
Alex Renderos made one of his four saves on the day in the 31
st minute. Stan State had two chances for the lead in the final minutes of the half, but Lara's shot sailed wide right and
Clayton Crockett's shot was stopped by the Pioneer keeper to send the match into the half tied at 1-1.
SECOND HALF: The Warriors took the 2-1 lead in the 52
nd minute on Koptieff's second goal of the match.
Adam Mockridge had a chance to double the hosts' lead, but his shot went wide right in the 60
th minute. Cal State East Bay tied the match in the 67
th minute on a goal by Clayton Branco off a ball from Marco Campos.
Nick Namwali had a chance to give Stan State (4-7-6, 2-6-3 CCAA) the lead, but Zavier Hajdukovich made one of his three saves in the half in the 72
nd minute. One minute later, Stan State took the 3-2 lead on a goal by
Tyler Tipton off a ball from
Josh Santillan and Lara. Renderos made one of his four saves as the Warriors kept the 3-1 lead when he stopped Danil Meshikov's shot on goal attempt in the 88
th minute. He made another huge save in the 89
th minute on another shot attempt by Meshikov. The Warriors sealed the 4-2 victory on a breakaway goal by Namwali as the buzzer sounded.

FOUR GOALS: Stan State's four goals this afternoon were the Warriors most since their 4-0 win over Fresno Pacific on September 5.
FIRST GOALS: Chase Koptieff,
Tyler Tipton and
Nick Namwali all scored their first goals of the season this afternoon. Koptieff had two goals while Tipton and Namwali scored Stan State's other two goals.
