BILLINGS, Mont.--- The eighth ranked Stan State women's cross country team punched its ticket to the 2022 NCAA Division II National Women's Cross Country Championship after capturing the West Regional Title this morning at Amend Park in Billings, Mont. The Warriors captured the title with 91 points, just two points ahead of runner-up Chico State. Stan State had four of the top 25 finishers who earned All-Region in
Kaela Dishion (fifth, 21:13.8),
Najwa Chouati (sixth, 21:23.7),
Kayden Legan (tenth, 21:32.4) and
Yahaira Zuniga (18th, 21:43).
HEADING BACK: Stan State is heading back to the nationals for the second consecutive year after capturing this morning's West Regional Championships. The 2022 NCAA Division II National Women's Cross Country Championships are set for December 2 at University Center, Wash., as part of the 2022 NCAA Division II Fall Festival.
ALL-REGION: Three Warriors earned All-West Region honors by placing in the top ten.
Kaela Dishion was the Warriors' top finisher with her fifth-place time of 21:13.8 followed by
Najwa Chouati in sixth place with a time of 21:23.7. Rounding out the top ten for Stan State was
Kayden Legan with her tenth-place time of21:32.4. Also figuring into the Warriors' 81 points were
Yahaira Zuniga (18
th, 21:43) and
Haleigh Humble (52
nd, 22:28.9).
Bela Moreno finished in 86
th place for Stan State with her time of 23:03.5 followed by
Katarina Borchin (129
th, 24:02).
TEAM RESULTS: Stan State won the regionals with its 91 points followed by Chico State with 93 points. Also punching its ticket to the nationals was Biola with its third-place finish with 114 points. The top individual was Alaska's Naomi Bailey with a time of 20:53. Finishing in second was her teammate, Kendall Kramer with her second-place time of 20:58.47. The final individual punching their ticket to nationals was Alaska's Rosie Fordham with a time of 21:06.17.
