STOCKTON, Calif.--- The Division I University of the Pacific Tigers shot 65.4% from the field including 64.3% from three-point land in the first half to key their 80-56 win over the visiting Stan State Warriors.
Jeremiah Jones had 11 points to lead the way for the Warriors. This was an exhibition game for Stan State while it was a regular season game for Pacific.
FIRST HALF: Pacific (5-6) took a 10-1 lead in the first four minutes of the game and never looked back this evening at the Alex G. Spanos Center in Stockton, Calif. The Tigers increased their lead to 22-5 at the 12:29 mark of the first half. Two minutes, a
Micah Boone three off a pass from
Will Pallesi cut the deficit to 22-10. A dunk by Sam Freeman increased the hosts lead to 37-15 with a little under five minutes to go in the half. The Tigers took a 48-18 lead into the half after a three by Luke Avdalovic.
SECOND HALF: A jumper by
Benno Zecic capped 8-3 run by the Warriors to begin the second half as the Warriors cut the hosts' lead to 51-26. The Tigers came right back and increased their lead to 60-29 on a jumper by Cam Denson. Stan State twice cut the Tiger lead to 21 including at the 8:23 mark of the second half on two made throws by
Micah Boone. A jumper by Moe Odum gave UOP a 74-46 lead with 4:48 on the clock. A
Marlon Short lay-up capped an 8-0 run by the visitors as Stan State cut the Tiger lead to 20 (74-54) with 2:53 left in the game. Pacific outscored the Warriors 6-2 in the final minutes to take the game 80-56.
JJ: Jeremiah Jones paced the Warriors with 11 points. Jones went four-for-seven from the field including three-for-five from the three-point land.
Micah Boone added seven points while grabbed four rebounds off the bench for Stan State. Three players scored six points each in
Kobe Ordonio,
Benno Zecic and
Matt Bender.
A TALE OF TWO HALVES: Pacific outscored the Warriors 48-18 in the first half while the Tigers shot 65% from the field including 64% from three-point land. Stan State outscored the Tigers 38-32 in the second half while shooting 46% from the field and 44% from three-point land. The Warriors held UOP to 47% shooting from the field including just 41% from beyond the arc.
11/20: Stan State had 11 assists in the exhibition game paced by
Marlon Short's four assists.
Benno Zecic, who is second in the nation in Division II in assists added three.
Will Pallesi dished out two assists and
Mahda Fallay had one.
14 TURNOVERS: The Warriors forced 14 turnovers by UOP including seven by steals. Three of those seven steals came from
Benno Zecic. Four Stan State players had one steal each in
Mahda Fallay,
Marlon Short,
Will Pallesi and
Daniel Ameyaw.
UP NEXT: Stan State will return the court on Wednesday, December 28, when the Warriors travel to Sacramento, Calif., for a 6pm scheduled exhibition game with Sacramento State. The Warriors will return to CCAA play on Sunday, January 1 for 3pm game with Chico State at The Fitz. This will the beginning of a season-long five game home stand for the Warriors.
