TURLOCK -- Luis Salgado's game-winning 3-point attempt bounced high off the far side of the rim,
Marlon Short's quick attempt for a put-back was short, and Cal State Monterey Bay escaped Saturday with a narrow, 56-54, California Collegiate Athletic Association victory over the Stanislaus State men's basketball team at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
Trailing by two, the Warriors (7-12, 4-10 CCAA) had the ball with 15.5 seconds left after CSUMB's Levi Frankland missed the front end of a one-and-one opportunity at the free-throw line. The ball ended up in Salgado's hands, who went for the win with a 3-point attempt from the right wing. It bounced long on the far side. Short tried to put it back before the buzzer but came up empty in the scrum underneath the rim, and the Otters secured the rebound for the win.
Short led the Warriors with 17 points and was one rebounds shy of a double-double with nine.
Tony Singleton added 13 points.
