Warriors Fall at Fresno Pacific

FRESNO — The Stanislaus State women's tennis team suffered its first defeat of the spring season Saturday, falling 7-0 on the road at PacWest Conference foe Fresno Pacific.

All three doubles matches were competitive. Fresno Pacific (3-2) won all three by identical scores of 6-3 to take the doubles point and an early 1-0 match lead. Amber Huk was the lone Warrior that pushed her singles match to a tiebreaker. She took Fresno Pacific's Maria Borodii to 6-6 in the second set of the No. 1 singles match, only to fall, 7-2, in the tiebreaker.

Kate Bolton was also competitive for the Warriors (2-1) at No. 3 singles. She battled FPU's Alice Di Matteo to scores of 6-3, 6-4, with Matteo taking the win. Sylvana Talamantes did the same thing at No. 4 singles. She pushed Alice Marques of the Sunbirds to scores of 6-3, 6-4.

"We had some opportunities in the doubles matches, and our young team is starting to compete better in the bigger points," said Stanislaus State head coach Verek Visaraga.

The Warriors next host PacWest opponent Academy of Art at noon on Saturday at the Stan State Tennis Courts. They travel to another PacWest opponent, Dominican, the following day on Sunday.
