CARSON – The Warriors bounced back in game two of their LA road trip in a 3-1 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills. The team didn't stay down for too long as they walked their way back into the win column in less than 24 hours.
The victory was led by an impressive display of passing by
Haley Burdo and
Eyriana Eatmon, who finished the match with 47 combined assists. Stan State hit the ground running with a quick 6-0 run to spark the first set, with 5 points coming from a Burdo assist. Senior
Macky Morris put down some timely attacks to help the team pull away early, and would go on to lead the match with 17 kills. The Toros couldn't get passed the wall of defense from the Warriors, who racked up three total blocks from
Alex Byrd,
Autumn Kirby,
Penelope Zepeda, and Morris. The collective set the tone with a convincing 25-10 win.
While both teams traded blows throughout the second set, Eatmon stepped up big with eight assists to keep Dominguez Hills humble. Senior
Natasha Mich added four kills and a block assist to her match totals as well. She would go on to finish with a season high six kills and five digs to put the Warriors up 2-0 in a 25-18 set victory.
In a neck and neck third set battle, the Toros went on a six-point run late in the match to go up 17-21. The Warriors were unable to answer back despite a balanced scoring attack from their hitters. Morris and Zepeda led the team in attacks in set three, but the Toros managed to sneak by 18-25.
Junior
Gabby Rawson got involved with a match high 19 digs, followed closely by Weaver with 13. The team ended their night with a final set score of 25-20.
This brings the club's record to 8-2 for the year and 1-1 in the CCAA. They will come back home Friday night, Sept. 16
