Volleyball Hosts Another Back-to-Back for More CCAA Competition

9/22/2022 11:08:00 AM

LAST MATCH:  In a five-set war in Fitzpatrick Arena, the Warriors took home the 3-2 win over Holy Names University to keep their home win streak alive at 4-0. After a career night from Haley Burdo at the setter position, her 29 assists helped the team string together two crucial fourth and fifth set victories. The team hopes to maintain their home court advantage to build on a 3-1 CCAA record for the season.

UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS:  Stanislaus State is currently 11-2 on the year, picking up an early season victory against a #25 ranked Winona State club. Since then, the team's performances have been quite impressive, maintaining a six and four game winning streak so far.

AMONGST THE CCAA LEADERS:  The team is ranked 3rd in the conference, only one game back from Cal State LA and Cal Poly Pomona who remain undefeated in CCAA play. Coming off CCAA Defensive Player of the Week honors, Rawson is currently ranked 1st in digs and digs per set in the conference (4.56). She is also 54th in the nation in digs per set. Alex Byrd has stepped up big this season and sit at #2 in blocks (1.33) along with Macky Morris who cracked the #10 spot (0.89). The team is ranked 5th in hitting percentage (.227) 1st in opponent hitting percentage (.127), 2nd in blocks (2.35), and 2nd in digs (15.44).

COUGARS IN REVIEW:  Cal State San Marcos 3-8 overall record puts them 6th in the conference rankings. While their numbers won't 'wow' you in any major statistical categories as a team this season, Freshman Gwynnie Wentzel is 8th in hitting percentage (.330) and Sophomore Madison Turner is also 7th in assists for the Cougars. San Marcos will have to improve their serving and reception numbers specifically to cover up any holes they may have in the upcoming matchup.

ALL-TIME SERIES: The Warriors fell 0-3 to the Cougars in their most recent match last year, but Stanislaus State managed to win a 3-2 opening faceoff in the 2021 season. Historically, the Warriors are 3-6 against San Marcos since 2015.

PIONEERS IN REVIEW:  Stan State's second matchup of their back-to-back puts them up against a 4th ranked Cal State East Bay team. The Pioneers are right on the Warriors tails with identical conference records this year. East Bay has put together a well-balanced team led by Mia Jordan and Karis Carter, their two leading hitters. Lexi Pagani is also top 10 in kills this year (2.87).

ALL-TIME SERIES:  Cal State East Bay has lost the last four matches against the Warriors in the last three years of competition. Their last victory against Stan State was a 2-3 victory in Hayward. Dating back to their first matchup in 2007, their record to date is 15-19.
