Warriors to Host SF State and Sonoma State this Friday and Sunday

Stan State to Host SF State and Sonoma State in a Pair of Conference Matches this Weekend

TURLOCK, Calif.--- After opening the first weekend of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) 1-1 on the road, the Stan State Warriors will return home for a pair of CCAA contests against San Francisco State and Sonoma State on Sept. 30 and Oct. 2.  Friday's contest will begin at 7pm while Sunday's match has a starting time of 2pm. 

LAST TIME ON THE PITCH:  Stanislaus State went 1-1 this weekend in its opening weekend of conference matches in Southern California.  The Warriors started the weekend with a 3-1 loss to Cal State San Bernardino on Friday.  Alexis Brewah scored Stan State's goal.  Stan State rebounded with a 2-0 win over Cal State San Marcos on Sunday.  Jackzeny Mancilla scored her first goal as a Warrior in the 29th minute off a ball form Sabrina Cabrera.  The Warriors sealed the win on Brewah's seventh goal of the season off a cross from Marivic Lek-MiroAlexia Estrada recorded two saves in goal for her second shutout of the season.

UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS:  Stan State is 4-2-2 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA heading into its two home matches this weekend.  Alexis Brewah leads the way with her seven goals, three assists and 17 points.  Sabrina Cabrera is second on the team with her three goals, one assists and seven points.  Right behind Cabrera with five points is Summer England with her two goals and an assist.  Alish Garcia and Jackzeny Mancilla each have scored a goal this season.  Cabrera leads the team with her two game-winning goals.  Alexia Estrada has started in goal in seven matches this season while posting a 1.00 goals against average with 40 saves, two shutouts and a .851 saves percentage. 

AMONGST THE NCAA/CCAA LEADERS:  In the recent NCAA Division II statistics report, Alexis Brewah is in the top 20 in the nation in three individual statistical categories.  She is 16th in points per game (2.12), seventeenth in goals (seven) and 20th in total points (17).  Brewah is in the top ten in the CCAA as she is second in tied for first in goals, second in points and tied for third with her three assists.  Sabrina Cabrera is tied for the CCAA lead with her two game-winning goals and is tied for sixth in goals (three) and ninth in points (seven).  Alexia Estrada leads the CCAA with her 40 saves and is second in saves percentage (.851), tied for fifth in goals against average (1.00), second in saves percentage (.851) and tied for ninth in shutouts (two).

UPDATE ON THE GATORS:  San Francisco State enters Friday's contest with the Warriors with a 2-5-2 overall record and a 0-1-1 CCAA record after tying Cal Poly Humboldt (0-0) and losing 2-0 to Chico State.  Four Gators have scored three points this season with a goal and an assist in Alexa Alevar, Alyna Flores, Samantha Shim, and AJ Tanner.  Marcella Salyer has posted a 1.25 goals against average in eight matches with 30 saves, two shutouts and .769 saves percentage. 

ALL-TIME SERIES:  Stan State leads the all-time series with the Gators 19-5-6. The two teams are 2-2-1 in their last five meetings.  SF State won last year's meeting 1-0 in San Francisco. The Warriors defeated SF State 2-1 in 2019 in San Francisco. 

UPDATE ON THE SEAWOLVES:  Sonoma State, who is receiving votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches/NCAA Division II National Poll, is 5-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA after losing 3-1 to Chico State and defeating Cal Poly Humboldt 5-0 at home this weekend.  Lexi Zandonella-Arasa leads the team with her seven goals, four assists and 18 points.  Annette Sotelo is next with five goals for ten points followed by Malia Falk with three goals, three assists for nine points.  Falk leads the Seawolves with her two game-winning goals.  Phoebe Barnes has posted a 1.06 goals against average with 24 saves, two shutouts and a .800 saves percentage in goal for Sonoma State. 

ALL-TIME SERIES:  Sonoma State leads the all-time series with the Warriors 21-9-5.  Stan State snapped a five-match winning streak by the Seawolves last season with a 1-0 win in Santa Rosa.  Daisy Martinez scored the Warriors' goal in the 85th minute on a cross from Summer England

TITLE IX 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION:  During the match on Friday evening, Stan State's Department of Athletics will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Title IX. 
 
UP NEXT:  Stan State will be on the road for its next match on Thursday, Oct. 6 when the Warriors travel to Arcata, Calif., for a 3pm starting match with Cal Poly Humboldt. They will return home on Sunday, Oct. 9 for a 2pm starting match with Chico State.
