TURLOCK – The Warriors were able to breeze by Fresno Pacific on Monday evening for a 4-0 Labor Day victory on another scorching hot night.
Alecxander Cuellar headlined the evening with a three-goal hat trick, complimented by a first half goal by
Josh Santillan.
In a match that offered fans more cards than goals, the chippy style of play from both teams made Warriors' first home victory of the season that much sweeter. Stanislaus State's unselfish play on the offensive end led to three assists out of four goals scored on the evening. With assists from Santillan,
Gerardo Delgadillo, and
Finn Hoffmann, the collective used effective passing in scoring territory to rattle the FPU defense.
On the defensive end, aggressive play seemed to be the Warriors' best and worst enemy, picking up four cards during the shutout. The Warriors' defensive efforts lead to timely clearings in their own penalty box, that thwarted any efforts FPU made to get many clean shots on goal. The Sunbirds only managed to get seven shots off on a stout Stanislaus State defense, with one on target that was corralled by Goalkeeper
Robby Rosas.
Cuellar was able to cap off his impressive night in dramatic fashion with a penalty kick goal in the 51
st minute to put the Sunbirds to bed early in the second half. This performance marked the Sophomore Midfielder's first goals of the season to help lead his club to a 1-1-1 record.
The team will see their next matchup in Monmouth, Ore. this Friday at 11:30am against Saint Martin's University to try and secure their first win on the road this season.
