HAYWARD, Calif. – In a payback game for the Warriors on the road, the team was able to click on all cylinders in an efficient shooting Saturday against Cal State East Bay. With three players in double figures, the trio of
Makayla Rose,
Liliana Marques, and
Jadyn Patterson all chipped in for a combined 50 points in the victory.
FIRST QUARTER: The Warriors starting five got going early with great shot selection, knocking down 50% of their shots from deep, inside the arc, and behind the foul line. Rose, Marques, and Patterson each connected on three pointers in the first quarter, keeping the team within striking distance at 20-24.
SECOND QUARTER: Both teams started the second period scoreless for the first three minutes of play, but Stan State's leading scorers took the reigns as Patterson knocked down her second three-pointer of the game. She would finish the game with a 4-5 clip from deep to end with 12 points, four assists, and three rebounds. Still down 28-35 at the half, the low scoring quarter was flipped on its head after the break.
THIRD QUARTER: Stan State outscored the Pioneers 22-7 in the third quarter, as the team got their hands dirty in the paint and forced a slew of turnovers to turn the deficit into a ten-point lead 50-40 heading into the fourth quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER: Since the seven-minute mark of the third quarter, the Warriors maintained the lead through the end of regulation. After another slow offensive showing for both ball clubs, Rose took over the final period, connecting on eight of her team-high 25 points on the night.
Joia Armstrong and
Alexis Woodson would chip in with a few buckets of their own, as Armstrong finished with six points, five rebounds, and a block, while Woodson went for five points, two rebounds, and two steals. With this victory, Stan State splits the season series against East Bay at 1-1 on the season.
HOT SHOOTING: Aunika Hornung,
Lyric Richardson, Rose, and Marques, each shot over 50% from the field for the game. As a team, consistency showed with a 42.1% three-point shooting day and a 47.5% game from the field.
POINTS OFF TURNOVERS: Known for their defensive activity, the Warriors swarmed to 19 steals and four blocks on the night, that converted into 35 total points on the other end of the floor. Rose led the team with six steals on the day, while Marques followed closely behind with five.
