SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.--- Stan State trailed 2-1 with less than two minutes to go when
Tyler Tipton's header and second goal of the match off a cross from
Sammy Villanueva tied the match at 2-2 at No. 25 Cal State San Bernardino (5-1-3, 2-0-1). Tipton scored the Warriors' first goal off a pass from
Edgar Castaneda in the 21
st minutes. Jonathan Mayen scored both of the Yotes' goals in the 2-2 draw.
FIRST HALF: The Yotes had several chances in the twenty minutes to take the lead including Nicklaus Sullivan's shot on goal attempt in the tenth minute was stopped by the Warriors'
Robby Rosas. Ten minutes later, the Stan State (3-6-1, 0-2-1 CCAA) took the 1-0 lead when
Tyler Tipton scored his first goal and eighth of the season off a pass from
Edgar Castaneda. Cal State San Bernardino had a chance to tied the match at 1-1 late in the half, but Rosas recorded one of his seven saves on the day to send the match into the half with Stan State leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: Cal State San Bernardino came out of the locker room on fire in the second half with three shot on goal attempts in the first thirteen minutes. The last one came in the 54
th minute off the foot of Jonathan Mayen which was stopped by the Warriors'
Robby Rosas. The hosts tied the match in the 67
thminute as the Yotes were fouled in the box. Mayen connected on the penalty kick to tie the match at 1-1. Not even a minute later, Mayen gave CSUSB the 2-1 lead. The match remained 2-1 hosts until the 89
th minute when
Tyler Tipton connected on his team leading ninth goal of the season and second of the match off a cross from
Sammy Villanueva. CSUB had a chance for the game-winner when Brian Castillo's shot on goal was stopped by Rosas as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
STATS: The Yotes outshot the Warriors 17-3 including 9-2 in shot on goal attempts.
Robby Rosas had seven saves for Stan State.
EIGHTH AND NINTH: Tyler Tipton had his team leading and CCAA leading eighth and ninth goals of the season this afternoon in San Bernardino. Tipton's nine goals ties him for fourth on the Warrior single season list with
Julian Madrigal (2021) and Joe Michelena (1999). Victor Regalado holds the school record with 13.
UP NEXT: Stan State continues its three-match road trip in Pomona this Sunday, October 8 with a 2pm match with No. 9 Cal Poly Pomona. The Broncos played to a 2-2 tie with No. 3 Chico State this evening. The Warriors will end their three-match road trip on Thursday, October 12 in Arcata with a 3pm match with Cal Poly Humboldt.
