Wildcats Hold Off Stan State’s Late Rally

HAYWARD, Calif.---  Central Washington held off a late rally by Stan State this afternoon in Day Two of the Pioneer Conference Challenge in Hayward to defeat the Warriors 66-58.  Mya Blake had a team high 22 points to go with her five assists to lead the way for the Warriors.  Liliana Marques chipped in 13 points for Stan State, who will host the Warrior Classic this Friday-Saturday, November 17-18.  
 
FIRST QUARTER:  Two free throws by Taylor Pilot gave Stan State (1-1) a 11-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game.  A three by Malia Smith capped a 6-0 run by the Wildcats to cut the Warrior lead to 11-10.  A lay-up by Aunika Hornung off a pass from Mya Blake gave the Warriors a 13-10 lead heading into the second quarter. 
 
SECOND QUARTER:  Mya Blake scored the Warriors' first five points of the second stanza to gave Stan State a 18-15 lead Central Washington scored seven of the next nine points to take a 22-20 lead mid-way through the quarter. The Warriors took a 28-24 lead on a Joia Armstrong lay-up with 2:37 to go in the game.  An old-fashioned three-point play by Armstrong gave Stan State a 31-27 lead.  Central Washington (3-2) finished the quarter scoring the final points to tie the game at 31-31 heading into the half.  
 
THIRD QUARTER:  Taylor Pilot's lay-up gave the Warriors a 36-33 lead just three minutes into the third quarter.  Central Washington outscored Stan State 14-5 in the next five minutes to take a 47-41 lead.  A Pilot jumper cut the deficit to 47-43, but Valeria Huerta's lay-up gave the Wildcats a 49-43 lead heading into the final quarter.  
 
FOURTH QUARTER:  An Asher Cal lay-up capped a 6-2 run by the Wildcats as they took a 55-45 lead in the first four minutes of the last quarter.  A Liliana Marques' four-point play capped a 13-5 by the Warriors to cut the Wildcat lead to 60-58 with just one minute left in the game.  Central Washington went six-for-six from the line down the stretch as the Wildcats took the 66-58 victory.  
 
BLAKE:  Junior transfer Mya Blake led the Warriors with 22 points and dished out five assists and recorded a steal in 34 minutes.  Blake was nien-for-12 from the field including going four-for-five from three-point land.  Liliana Marques added 13 points as she went five-for-11 from the field including two-for-five from three-point land.  
 
15/7:  Stan State forced 15 turnovers by Central Washington including seven by steals.  Taylor Pilot led the Warriors with four.  Three players had one apiece in Mya Blake, Liliana Marques, and Asha Walker.  
 
UP NEXT:  The Warriors will have its home opener this Friday, November 17 at 7pm when they host Academy of Art on Team Poster Night.  They will host Simon Fraser this Saturday, November 18 at 1pm.  These two games will be part of the Warrior Classic.  Cal State East Bay will face Simon Fraser on Friday at 5pm and Academy of Art on Saturday at 1pm.
