TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State outscored Academy of Art 44-31 in the second half to key its 84-65 victory in the second game of the Warriors Classic this evening at The Fitzpatrick Arena. Four Warriors scored in double digits led by
Mya Blake's game high 17 points.
Lyric Richardson added 12 points and
Jadyn Patterson chipped in 11 points off the bench and
Iman Addison scored 10 points for the victory in their home opener.
FIRST QUARTER: Academy of Art (1-2) took a 10-7 lead mid-way through the quarter on a jumper by Anna Fornells. The guests increased its lead to 15-11 with 2:40 left in the quarter on an Emilia Dougherty jumper. Two free throws by
Liliana Marques cut the deficit to 18-16 heading into the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER: A
Joia Armstrong jumper capped a 7-0 run by the Warriors to begin the second quarter as they took a 23-18 lead. Stan State (2-1) increased its lead to 29-21 on a
Mya Blake lay-up. Academy of Art cut the Warrior lead to 33-30 with just 2:28 left in the half on a three by Alba Rovira Ayuso.
Taylor Pilot's free throw gave the Warriors a 40-34 lead heading into the half.
THIRD QUARTER: Joia Armstrong's jumper off one of
Taylor Pilot's ten assists capped an 8-0 run by the Warriors to begin the second half as they took a 48-34 lead. Three times in the final minutes of third quarter Academy of Art cut the Warrior lead to seven including 56-49 on a Lucia Revenga lay-up with just 56 seconds left in the quarter.
Mya Blake's jumper gave Stan State a 58-49 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER: Stan State went on 18-1 run to begin the fourth quarter to take a 76-50 lead at the mid-way point on an
Iman Addison lay-up off a pass from
Ashmeen Sran. The Warriors cruised to an 84-65 non-conference victory.
FOUR IN DOUBLE DIGITS: The Warriors had four players score in double digits this evening led by
Mya Blake's 17 points.
Lyric Richardson chipped in 12 points and
Jadyn Patterson added 11 points off the bench.
Iman Addison scored 10 points for the Warriors in 24 minutes.
22/33: Stan State had 22 assists on 33 made field goals with
Taylor Pilot's 10 assists leading the way. She only two turnovers to go with her one steal, seven rebounds, one blocked shots and four points.
Ashmeen Sran had three assists while
Mya Blake and
Ashley Lewis each had two.
DEFENSE: The Warriors held Academy of Art to just 37% shooting from the field including 31% from three-point land. They also forced 23 turnovers including nine by steals.
Mya Blake,
Liliana Marques, and
Alexis Woodson each had two steals.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will host Simon Fraser on Saturday at 3pm in the final game of the Warrior Classic. Simon Fraser defeated Cal State East Bay 67-65 earlier this evening. Cal State East Bay will face Academy of Art at 1pm in game three of the Classic.
