CHICO, Calif. – As Stan State Softball saw their first action of the 2023 season at Chico State, they finished the day in the win column against Academy of Art in a two-run effort.
SCORING SUMMARY: The 1-4 Urban Knights came into the matchup with the advantage over the 0-0 Warriors in total games played this season but runs scored by Senior center fielder
Katie Thornsberry in the first inning and Sophomore shortstop
Sheridan Gulley in the seventh gave Stan State the edge.
Thornsberry was walked on her first at-bat of the game, managing to steal second base and advancing to third after a groundout from Sophomore right fielder
Lauryn Serda. Sophomore
Karli DalBianco send Thornsberry home on an RBI single to left field.
In the bottom of the seventh, Gulley managed to single one up the middle, later getting brought home from second off a pinch hit from Junior pitcher
Avery Fitch.
DUAL PITCHING EFFORT: Junior
Kyndra Marzorini and Sophomore
Victoria Alarcon shared the load at the mound, as Marzorini led off the opening six with eight strikeouts, five force outs, and five putouts. Alarcon would relieve for the Warriors' final inning, forcing all three of her batters out to secure the win.
UP NEXT: Stan State will stay in Chico, this time to face Academy of Art for game 2 at 9:30am and the host Wildcats at 2:30pm.
