TURLOCK, Calif.-- Stan State salvaged the series finale with a 7-6 walk-off victory in game two of this afternoon's doubleheader with No. 29 Cal State Monterey Bay. With the bases loaded and two outs,
Jacob Baker was hit by a pitch to bring in
Ryan Leonesio with the game-winning run.
Caleb Bertoncini (1-0) pitched 0.2 scoreless innings of relief while striking out two for the win. The Warriors lost the opener 12-5 to the Otters.
GAME ONE: The 29
th ranked Cal State Monterey Bay Otters (5-6, 3-1 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first of the opener. Kyle Barileau had a one-out double and scored on a Brady Miguel single through the right side. The Otters added four more runs in the top of the second including two on a two-out two-run single by Trent Free. Stan State cut the deficit to 5-1 in its half of the second.
Tyler Van Dyk had a lead off walk and later scored on a one-out single by
Danny Murphy.
The Otters added two more runs in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead. The hosts cut the Otter lead to 7-2 in their half of the sixth inning. Murphy had a two-out walk and scored on a triple by
Jacob Baker. CSUMB scored two more runs in the seventh and three more insurance runs in the eighth to take a 12-2 lead.
Once again just like game two on Saturday, the Warriors made a late rally in their last at bat.
Mac Cabero had a lead-off walk and went to second on a one-out single by
Robert Valdivia. They advanced a base on wild pitch.
JD Madrigal's one-out two-run double brought in Cabero and Valdivia with the Warriors' third and fourth runs of the game. Madrigal advanced to third on a ground out by
Flavio Perez and scored on a balk. The Otters induced the last Warrior batter to fly out left to preserve the 12-5 CSUMB victory.
WARRIOR HITTERS: JD Madrigal went two-for-five with two runs batted in a run scored to lead the Warrior hitters.
STAN STATE PITCHERS: Kody Cardoza (1-1) suffered the loss in the start for Stan State.
Noah Chelberg pitched a scoreless ninth while giving up just one hit.
GAME TWO: Stan State (8-6, 1-3 CCAA) took a 5-0 lead in the night cap with a five-run second inning.
Tyler Van Dyk had a lead-off single, went to third when
Danny Murphy reached on a sacrifice bunt.
Mac Cabero drove home Van Dyk with the game's first run on a double which Murphy went to third. Murphy scored on a ground out by
Casey Carr.
Jacob Baker drove home Cabero with the innings' third run with a single through the left side.
Kyle Rachels walked to place runners on first and second. Baker and Rachels stole third and second.
Robert Valdivia drove home Baker with a ground out. Rachels scored the inning's final run on when
JD Madrigal reached on a throwing error to make the score 5-0 Stan State.
The Warriors added a run in the third. Van Dyk reached on a lead-off single, went to third when Murphy again reached on an error on sacrifice bunt. Van Dyk scored on a Cabero sacrifice fly as Stan State took a 6-0 lead.
CSUMB cut the deficit to 6-1 on sacrifice fly by Kyle Barileau. The Otters cut Stan State's lead to 6-3 with a two-run sixth. That inning, the Otters took advantage of a Warrior error to score two unearned runs. The guests tied the game with a three-run seventh inning. Brady Miguel score the tying run with the bases loaded and came in on a passed ball. With the bases loaded,
Caleb Bertoncini (1-0) came on in relief to strike out the final two batters and preserve the 6-6 tie.
Flavio Perez had a lead-off single and was pinch ran by
Ryan Leonesio. Van Dyk advanced Leonesio to second with a sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Leonesio advanced to second when Cabero reached on Warrior error. Cabero stole second to put runners at first and second. The Otters intentionally walked
Casey Carr to load the bases. With the bases loaded and the count 1-2,
Jacob Baker was hit by a pitch to bring in Leonesio with the game-winning run.
WARRIOR HITTERS: Three Stan State hitters had multiple-hit games.

Jacob Baker each drove in two runs in for Stan State.
STAN STATE PITCHERS: Tony Jacob recorded the no-decision. He pitched six innings, giving up eight hits and three runs (one earned) while striking out two.

UP NEXT: Stan State will travel north up Route 99 for a four-game series with Chico State, March 3-5, in Chico, Calif. The series will begin with a 5pm single game on Friday, March 3. It will continue on Saturday, March 4 with an 1pm starting doubleheader. The two teams will conclude the four-game series with a single game on Sunday, March 5 at noon. The Warriors will return home, March 10-12, for a four-game series with Cal State San Bernardino.
