TURLOCK, Calif.--- With this afternoon's doubleheader sweep of the Stan State Warriors, the No. 5 Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes took a 2-1 series advantage in this weekend's four-game CCAA series. The two teams will finish off the four-game series tomorrow at noon with a single nine-inning game at Stan State's Warrior Field.
GAME ONE: Cal State San Bernardino (15-2, 6-1 CCAA) took a 2-0 lead on a two-run single by Jason Shedlock in the top of the second inning. The Yotes added another run on a two-out run scoring double by Garrett Macias. Stan State cut the deficit to just one run with a two-run third inning.
Mac Cabero and
Jacob Baker had back-to-back lead-off singles in the Warrior third. They each advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt by
Robert Valdivia. Both Warriors scored when
Tyler Van Dyk reached on a Yote error.
The visitors doubled their lead to 4-2 with a run in the top of the fourth inning. They increased their lead with a five-run fifth inning keyed by a two-out two-run double by Riley Parker. Stan State came back and cut the deficit to 7-5 on a three-run home run by
Tyler Van Dyk which scored Baker and Valdivia in its half of the fifth.
Stan State (11-10, 4-7 CCAA) had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Danny Murphy had a lead-off single and went to second on a one-out single by Cabero. Baker hit a double to left center which scored Murphy and the Yotes threw out Cabero to keep CSUSB leading 7-6.
The Warriors had another chance to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth.
Alex Solis had a lead-off single, went to second on a sacrifice by Murphy.
Jonluke Goldman had a pinch-hit single which sent Solis to third.
Ryan Leonesio pinch ran for Goldman. Yote reliever, Oscar Rauda, struck out the next Warrior batter. Leonesio stole second, but Bauda struck out the final Stan State to preserve the 7-6 lead for the visitors. Bauda struck out the side in the Warrior ninth for his fourth save of the season and the Yote 7-6 victory.
WARRIOR HITTERS: Danny Murphy went three-for-three with a run scored. Three Warriors had two hits apiece in
Tyler Van Dyk,
Mac Cabero and
Jacob Baker. Van Dyk drove in four runs including three on his third home run of the season. Baker scored two runs and also drove in a run.
STAN STATE PITCHERS: Stan State had nine pitchers to make appearances on the mound for the Warriors today.
Alex Kendrick pitched a scoreless first and struck out one.
Will Crookham pitched a scoreless fourth, striking out two and giving up a hit and an unearned run.
Patrick Sweeney,
Trent Huff,
Caleb Bertoncini and
Anthony Ramirez combined to pitch 4.1 innings of relief, giving up four hits, walking one and striking out four.
Noah Chelberg (0-1) suffered the loss, pitching one inning of relief, giving up three hits while walking two.
GAME TWO: The night cap was a pitching dual between the Warriors'
Casey Carr and the Yotes' Dylan O'Connor for the first 4.1 scoreless innings. Danny Garcia led the Yote fifth off getting hit by a pitch. He went to second on a Yote sacrifice bunt. Garcia advanced to third on an infield single by Takuto Kataoka. With one out, Kataoka stole second. Giovanni Del Negro hit a two-run two-out double down the left field line to give CSUSB a 2-0 lead. The Yotes broke the game opener with a two-out three-run home run by Del Negro in the top of the seventh to give CSUSB a 5-0 lead which the Yotes held on for this evening.
WARRIOR HITTERS: Stan State had just two hits in the night cap.

Robert Valdivia had a single for the Warriors.
STAN STATE PITCHERS: Casey Carr (3-2) pitched 4.1 innings, giving up two hits and two runs while striking out two and walking two. Alex Kendirck pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, giving up one hit, striking out three and walking one.
