Warriors Record Season Highs in Runs and Hits in Series Finale 15-8 Win

SAN MARCOS, Calif.---  Stan State scored a season high 15 runs and pounded out a season high 16 hits in the Warriors' 15-8 series finale victory over the Cal State San Marcos Cougars this afternoon in San Marcos.  With their win, the Warriors took the three-game series from the Cougars. 
 
Cal State San Marcos (8-15, 2-11 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Anthony Pacino had a lead-off single and scored on a one-out single by Luke Reece. The Cougars added three more runs in the third with all runs scoring with two-outs to take a 4-0 lead.
 
Stan State used a six-run fourth inning to take a 6-4 lead and never looked back in this afternoon's series finale victory.  Flavio Perez and Alex Solis had one-out back-to-back singles for the Warriors.  Kyle Rachels walked to load the bases.  Still with one out, Perez scored the Warriors' first run on a bases loaded walk to Jonluke GoldmanMac Cabero cut the Cougar lead to 4-3 with a two-run double to left field.  Stan State tied the game on a run scoring single by Jacob Baker.  With two outs, Robert Valdivia hit a two-run double to left center to give the Warriors a 6-4 lead. 
 
The Cougars cut the Stan State lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth, 6-5.  The Warriors (18-15, 11-12 CCAA) scored six runs again this time in the seventh inning.  Tyler Van Dyk started the inning with a lead-off double followed by a Flavio Perez infield single.  With two outs, Kyle Rachels singled which Perez went to second on for the guests.  Goldman reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases.  Cabero drove home Perez and Rachels to increase the Warriors' lead to 8-5.  Baker was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs.  Ryan Leonesio hit the first pitch he saw for a grand slam home run to give the Warriors a 12-5 lead. 
 
CSUSM scored two runs in its half of the seventh on a two-run double by Reece to cut the Warriors' lead to 12-7.  Stan State added two more runs in the eighth to take a 14-7 lead.  The Warriors added an insurance run on a Perez run scoring single which brought in Valdivia.  Anthony Pacino's one-out double in the bottom of the ninth scored Tanner Aoki to make the final Stan State 15, CSUSM 8.
 
WARRIOR HITTERS:  Stan State scored a season high 15 runs with a season high 16 hits with seven Warriors with multiple-hit days.  Flavio Perez had three hits and scored three runs while Mac Cabero was two-for-six with five runs batted in and two runs scored.  Robert Valdivia, Tyler Van Dyk, Alex Solis, Kyle Rachels and Jacob Baker all had two hits.  Ryan Leonesio had a grand slam home run and three Warriors each had a double in Valdivia, Van Dyk and Cabero. 
 
STAN STATE PITCHERS:  Damian Vallejos (2-0) pitched 3.1 innings of relief, giving up three hits and a run while striking out one.  Noah Chelberg and Trent Huff pitched a combined three innings of relief, giving up three hits and two runs, striking out four and walking two.  Will Crookham had the no-decision the start. 
 
BACK IN SIXTH PLACE:  After their win today, the Warriors are in sixth place with their 11-12 CCAA record for a .478 percentage.  The six teams at the end of the regular season will receive a berth to the CCAA Baseball Championships, May 11-13, in Seaside, Calif.  The top six teams going into tomorrow are Cal State Monterey Bay (16-4, .800), Cal State San Bernardino (14-7, .667), Chico State (9-6, .600), Cal State Dominguez Hills (10-8, .556), Cal Poly Pomona (10-9, .526) and Stan State (11-12, .478).  SF State is in seventh place at 9-10 (.474) followed by Cal State East Bay (6-10, .375) and Cal State Los Angeles (6-11, .353).  Sonoma State is next at 3-10 and Cal State San Marcos is last at 2-11.
 
THIRD SERIES WIN: With the win today, the Warriors recorded their third series win of the season.  Stan State took three out of four games from Central Washington (Feb. 17-18) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (March 17-19) before taking his weekend's three-game series from Cal State San Marcos.
 
UP NEXT:  Stan State will face the Oakland Athletics' Single A affiliate, Stockton Ports, tomorrow at 6:30pm evening in an exhibition game tomorrow.  The Warriors will return home, April 14-17, for a four-game series with San Francisco State. The first game of the season will be at 6pm on Friday, April 14.
