TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State will continue its season long four-match road trip with a 7pm match-up at Azusa Pacific this Thursday, September 7. The Warriors went 1-1 to begin their season at the Heritage Club Classic in Santa Barbara, Calif., over the Labor Day Weekend.
FIRST-YEAR HEAD COACH: John Powell'11 returned to his alma mater as the Warriors' head men's soccer coach when he was hired this Spring after spending the past two seasons on the sidelines at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. Powell guided the Nighthawks to a 15-4-3 record this season including an appearance in the NCAA Division II Super Region Four Final (Elite Eight). He was the 2022 Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Coach of the Year and guided the Nighthawks to their best season in program history. They captured the GNAC regular season title and won three NCAA Division II Tournament matches, before losing 1-0 to the National Champion Runner-up, Colorado State-Pueblo. He coached twelve All-GNAC honorees and four All-Region players during his two-years at NNU. In his four seasons coaching at Stan State and Northwest Nazarene with a 28-20-3 overall record.
RECAP OF HERITAGE CLUB CLASSIC: The Warriors went 1-1 last week to begin the 2023 season at the Heritage Club Classic in Santa Barbara, Calif. They started the weekend with a 2-1 loss to Simon Fraser on Thursday afternoon.
Tyler Tipton scored Stan State's goal off a ball from

Kai Perez.
Robby Rosas had three saves in goal for the Warriors. They bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Saint Martin's on Saturday. Tipton scored the Warriors' first goal on a penalty kick. Castaneda scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on a ball from Finn Hoffman. Rosas had five saves in goal for the Warriors.
AFTER FIRST WEEK: Tyler Tipton leads the Warriors with his two goal and four points.
Edgar Castaneda is second on the team with his three points (one goal and assist) and leads the team with his one game-winning goal. Also recorded assists for Stan State are
Kai Perez and Finn Hoffman.
Robby Rosas has a 1.50 goals against average with seven saves and a .700 saves percentage.
HOME OPENER: The Warriors' home opener is set for September 16 at 7pm against another PacWest opponent, Hawai'i Pacific at 7pm. Stan State will have two more non-conference matches before beginning the CCAA season. The Warriors will entertain Academy of Art (PacWest Conference) at 7pm on September 19. Their final non-conference match will be against CCAA rival, Chico State, on September 23 at 4:30pm.
CCAA OPENER: Coach Powell and the 2023 Warriors will begin their CCAA season on September 29 at 4:30pm hosting Cal State San Marcos. This will be the beginning of an 11-match CCAA schedule. Stan State will look to qualify for the six-team CCAA Men's Soccer Championships. The Semi-finals and Finals of the CCAA Men's Soccer Championships will be hosted by Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata, Calif., Nov. 10-12. The First Round is set for Sunday, Nov. 5 at the site of the higher seed (either the third or fourth seed).
AZUSA PACIFIC: The Cougars are 0-1-1 after playing to a scoreless draw at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday and losing 4-2 to Regis at home on Saturday. Scoring goals for the Cougars were Gavin Chagnon and Zedan Mutu. Leo Moreno had 12 saves with a .750 saves percentage to go with his 2.0 goals against average and one shutout. This is the first ever meeting between the Warriors and the Cougars.

STAYS ON THE ROAD: After Thursday evening's match, the Warriors will end their season beginning four-match road trip in in Fresno for a match against PacWest member and Central Valley rival, Fresno Pacific on September 13 at 7pm.
