FAIRBANKS, AK--- Despite
Mariah Iosua and
Ellison Weaver combining for twenty-one kills, Stan State had its four-match winning streak in a three-set loss (23-25,23-25, 28-30) to the Biola Eagles. Weaver had her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs. The Warriors will finish off the Denali State Bank Ice Block Classic tomorrow, September 9 with a pair of matches against No. 21 Alaska Anchorage (10am AT) and Alaska (7:30pm AT).
FIRST SET: Stan State (4-2) took an early 8-6 lead on a back-to-back combined blocks by
Autumn Kirby and
Emily Vander Weide. Biola went on a rally and took a 14-11 lead capped by a Meredith Fisher. The Eagles increased their lead to 20-14, but the Warriors tied the set at 23-23. Biola came right back on back-to-back kills by Grace Kill and Dominique Kirton gave Biola a 25-23 lead.
SECOND SET: A Juliana Van Ommering kill gave the Eagles a 5-1 lead to begin the second set. Stan State came right back and scored eight of the next thirteen points to take a 9-6 lead capped by a
Ellison Weaver on a pass from
Haley Burdo. Stan State took a 18-13 lead on three consecutive kills by
Mariah Iosua,
Alex Byrd, and
Emily Vander Weide off of assist from
Eyriana Eatmon and
Haley Burdo. A kill by Byrd gave the Warriors a 19-16 lead. Biola scored the next five points to take a 21-19 lead. A kill by Eatmon off a pass from Iosua gave them a 23-22 lead. The Eagles scored the set's final three points to take it 25-23 and to take a 2-0 lead.
THIRD SET: The third and final set went back and forth until consecutive kills by
Isabella Saucedo gave the Warriors a 14-11 lead. A kill by
Emily Vander Weide increased their lead to 17-13. The Eagles cut the Warrior lead to 18-16 on back-to-back kills by Meredith Fisher. Back-to-back kills by
Mariah Iosua and
Ellison Weaver increased their lead to 20-16. Once again, Biola cut its deficit to 20-18, but the Warriors'
Isabella Saucedo took a 21-18 lead. Biola took a 23-22 lead, but the Warriors tied the match at 23-23. The match had a couple of more times including a 28-28. The Eagles finished off the set scoring the final two points, 28-26, and the match 3-0.
LEADERS: Mariah Iosua had 11 kills followed by
Ellison Weaver's 10 kills to lead the way for Stan State.
Alex Byrd had five combined blocks to go with
Eyriana Eatmon's 16 assists.
Haley Burdo added 13 assists and
Gabby Rawson had 19 digs for the Warriors.
Aubrey Miller and Weaver each had 10 digs for Stan State.
