Men’s Basketball to Face No. 20 Chico State and Cal Poly Humboldt This Week on the Road

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State returns to the road for a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) games in Northern California.  The Warriors will begin their trip in Chico this Thursday, Jan. 11 for a 7:30pm tip-off with No. 20 Chico State.  They will end their weekend in Arcata for a 7:30pm game in Arcata against Cal Poly Humboldt.  
 
WARRIORS:  Stan State is 4-9 overall and 1-5 in the CCAA heading into its game on Thursday at nationally ranked Chico State.  The Warriors are averaging 66.5 points per game while giving up 71.4 points per game.  They are outrebounding their opponents 37.9 to 37.2.  Dontrell Hewlett leads with his 12.7 scoring average followed by John Wade III's 11.9 average.  Daniel Ameyaw leads the team with his 8.9 rebounding average, 10 blocked shots and 48.8% shooting from the field.  Tony Singleton has made a team high 30 treys and 87% from the line while Will Chavarin has connected on a team high 47% of his attempts from beyond the arc.  Wade leads Stan State with his 33 assists and 21 steals.  
 
STAN STATE HEAD COACH PAUL TREVOR: Coach Trevor enters his seventh year as the head coach at Stan State and 14th year overall coaching.  He is 175-165 in his fourteen years including 68-79 on the sidelines in Turlock.  During his 14-year coaching career, Trevor has coached 27 All-CCAA honorees including eight First Team selections and one CCAA Newcomer of the Year.  Two players have been named to the preseason All-American Teams with one receiving All-American honors and three All-Region honors.  In 2016-17 at SF State, he guided the Gators the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in 23 years and he was named the NABC West Region Co-Coach of the Year while the Gators were ranked  No. 22 in the end of the season national NABC rankings.  
 
LAST THREE GAMES :  Stan State went 0-3 last week with a 63-62 on New Year's Eve at Cal State Monterey Bay, a 71-42 loss to Cal State San Marcos and a 61-59 loss to Sonoma State.  The last two games were at home on Jan. 4 and 6.  Dontrell Hewlett led Stan State with his 13.3 scoring average and six steals.  Daniel Ameyaw averaging 8.7 rebounds per game.  Cam Walker made five of his nine attempts from beyond the arc for a 55.6% shooting percentage.  
 
ONE POSSESION GAMES:  Of the Warriors' nine losses, four are by three-points or less.  Two of their four victories have been by three-points in Fresno Pacific (56-53) and Dominican (63-60). Their four losses were to Point Loma (82-79 overtime), Cal State Dominguez Hills (65-63), Cal State Monterey Bay (63-62), and Sonoma State (61-59). 
 
TRIO OF DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Daniel Ameyaw recorded his first double-double as a Warrior in Stan State's 82-77 victory over Western Oregon in Rohnert Park, Nov. 17.  Ameyaw was four-for-seven from the field and two-for-three from the charity stripe.  He grabbed four offensive and six defensive rebounds to go with his five assists, two steals, and one assist. His second double-double came in the Warriors' win over SF State in which he had 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Ameyaw's third double-double came in the Warriors' 95-83 loss at Cal State Los Angeles.  He scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.  
 
NATIONALLY RANKED: Daniel Ameyaw is 41st in the nation with his 111 total rebounds and 8.5 rebounds per game average and 42nd with his 2.92 offensive rebounds per game.  
 
RANKED IN THE CCAA:  Stan State is second in in the CCAA in rebounding per game (37.8), third in offensive rebounds per game (11.6), and fifth in defensive rebounds per game (26.2).  The Warriors are fourth in free throw percentage (70.6%) and steals per game (7.62) while they are sixth in three-point field goals made per game (7.7). 
 
CHICO STATE  The Wildcats are 10-2 overall and 5-2 in the CCAA. They have won six of their last seven games including both games on the road last weekend 67-62 at San Francisco State and 75-66 at Cal State East Bay.  Chico State is averaging 73.6 points per game while giving up 64.4 points per game.  Chico is outrebounding its opponents 37.2 to 33.7.  Evan Oliver leads the team with his 12.7 scoring average followed by Adam Afifi's 11.8 average.  Kelvin Wright Jr. leads the Wildcats with his 61.6% shooting from the field and 5.6 rebounding average.  He is tied for the team lead with 12 blocked shots with Afifi. Jojo Murphy has made a team high 18 treys while Joshua Hamilton has made a team high 38.6% of his attempts from beyond the arc.  Afifi leads Chico State with his 86.7% shooting from the line while Evan Oliver has recorded a team leading 20 steals.  Miles Daniels has dished out a team high 32 assists.  
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  Chico State leads the all-time series with the Warriors 20-11 since 2007.  The two teams split the games last season.  The Wildcats won 64-55 in Chico on Nov. 26, 2022.  Stan State won 68-65 in Turlock on Jan. 1, 2023.  The last Warrior win in Turlock was 74-66 on Nov. 21, 2019.  
 
CAL POLY HUMBOLDT:  The 'Jacks are 3-9 overall and 0-7 in the CCAA.  They have seven of their last eight games including both games on the road last weekend 78-67 to Cal State East Bay and 60-57 to San Francisco State.  Cal Poly Humboldt is averaging 66.7 points per game while giving up 72.4 points per game.  The 'Jacks are outrebounding their opponents 34.4 to 29.0.  Rob Diaz leads the team with his 12.8 scoring average, 16 steals, and 84.2% shooting from the line.  He is tied with Emanuel Steward each with 20 assists.  Steward is averaging 10.7 points per game and shooting a team high 43.2% from three-point land while he is tied with Brandon Bento-Jackson each with 19 treys made.  Jordahn Johnson leads Humboldt with his 65% shooting from the field while Isaac Sowell is averaging a team leading 6.9 rebounds per game.  
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  Cal Poly Humboldt leads the all-time series 23-10 with the two teams splitting the series last year.  Cal Poly Humboldt won 79-68 in Arcata on Dec. 10, 2022.  Stan State won 86-72 in Turlock on Feb. 2, 2023.  The Warriors last victory was on Jan. 29, 2022, a 64-40 victory with Tony Singleton leading the way with 18 points going four-for-eight from three-point land.
