SEASIDE, Calif.--- Stan State started its weekend road trip this evening with a conference match at Cal State Monterey Bay. The guests and Cal State Monterey Bay each recorded seven shot on goal attempts, but the Otters took the victory (4-0) at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside, Calif. The Warriors, who held an 8-2 corner kick advantage, return to the pitch this Sunday morning in San Francisco for a 11:30 a.m. match with the San Francisco State Gators.
FIRST HALF: Cal State Monterey Bay (4-2-3, 1-1-1 CCAA) scored the match's first goal in the fourth minute as Kane Ritchie connected on a cross from Francisco Ponce. Stan State had a chance to tie the match, but
Edgar Castaneda's shot went high over the goal in the ninth minute. In the 18
th minute,
Alecxander Cuellar had a chance to score the game-tying goal, but the Otters' Sean Mattivi made the stop. The Otters doubled their lead in the 30
th minute on a goal by Mason Ward off an assist from Hugh Vargas-Rios. Late in the half,
Elio Corral saw his shot on goal attempt be stopped by the Otters' keeper to send the match into the half with the Otters leading 2-0.
SECOND HALF: Just ten minutes into the new stanza,
Edgar Castaneda had another shot attempt to cut into the Warrior deficit, but Mattivi made another save.
Alecxander Cuellar looked like he was going to cut the Otter lead in half but Matti stopped the senior's attempt in the 71
st minute. Cal State Monterey Bay increased its lead to 3-0 on a goal by Ronaldo Guardarramo off a pass from Cameron Belandres in the 71
st minute. The Otters scored their fourth goal in the 87
th minute as they took the 4-0 home conference victory.
SHOTS: Stan State (4-4-2, 0-2-1 CCAA) and Cal State Monterey Bay each recorded seven shot on goal attempts. The Otters held a slim 12-11 shot advantage. The Warriors recorded eight corner kicks to the hosts' two.
Alecxander Cuellar posted four shot attempts including three on goal.
Edgar Castaneda had three shot attempts with two on goal while
Elio Corral had two shot on goal attempts.
UP NEXT: Stan State returns to the pitch this Sunday, October 13 for a 11:30 a.m. starting match with San Francisco State in San Francisco. The Gators lost 2-0 to the visiting No. 12 Chico State Wildcats earlier this afternoon. The Warriors will return home on Student Affairs Night when they host Cal Poly Humboldt at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 17.
