Men’s Golf Sits in Tenth Place Led by Chris Chomyn’s Two-Under Par

KOHALA COAST, HI.---  After the first 18-holes of the 36-hole Dennis Rose Invitational, Stan State sits in tenth place with its eight-over par 296.  Chris Chomyn leads the Warriors with his two-under par 70 at the par-72 Mauna Lani North Course.  Chomyn sits in a five-way tie for eleventh place.  Colorado Christian, who is ranked number one in the nation leads the 19-team field after the first round with a 270 (-18).  There is a three-way tie for first place each with a six-under par 66 in Sungyeop Cho, Ben Fowler, and Sangha Park. All three golfers are from Colorado Christian. 

WARRIORS:  Chris Chomyn leads the way for Stan State with his two-under par 72, which places him in a tie for eleventh place.  Shooting a one-over par 73 today was Jack Peters, which places him in a tie for 28th place.  Two strokes behind Peters in a tie for 53rd place is Ricky Sullivan with a three-over par 75.  Shooting a six-over par 78 in a tie for 71st place is the Warrior duo of Nate Jetton and Chase Bird.

TOP FIVE TEAMS:  Colorado Christian from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) sits in first place after the first round with an eighteen-under par 270.  Eleven strokes behind the Cougars is CCAA member Cal State East Bay with a seven-under par 281 followed by another CCAA member Cal State Monterey Bay with a four-under par 284.  Another CCAA member, Sonoma State, shot a three-under par 285 which places them in fourth place.  Sitting in a tie for fifth place is Cal State San Bernardino from the CCAA and Western Washington from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) each shooting an even par 288.

TOP FIVE INDIVIDUALS:  The Colorado Christian trio of Sungyeop Cho, Ben Fowler, and Sangha Park are tied for first place each with a six-under par 66.  Fellow Cougar, Adam Duncan, is in fourth place with a five-under par 67.  There is a four-way tie for fifth place each shooting a four-under par 68 in Peyton Hendricks (Cal State East Bay), Colin Huang (Sonoma State), John Kim (Cal State San Bernardino), Won Jun Lee (Cal State East Bay), Peter Dionne-Yahr (Western Washington), and Trent Fitzgerald (Cal State San Bernardino).

SHOOTING PAR:  The duo of Chris Chomyn and Ricky Sullivan each redcorded at least twelve pars in the first round today in Hawai'i. Chomyn had 14 and Sullivan 13 heading into tomorrow morning's final round.

TOMORROW'S PAIRINGS:  Stan State will be paired with Hawai'i Hilo, Western New Mexico, and Westminster (Utah) for tomorrow's final round which will be a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (HT)/10:30 a.m. (PT).  The Warriors will start on holes eight through ten. 

AFTER TOMORROW :  After tomorrow's final round, Stan State will conclude its fall season, October 25-26 at the Southwest Airlines HPU Shark Shootout at the Hapuna Golf Course in Waimea, Hawai'i. 

SPRING SEASON:  The complete Spring 2025 schedule will be announced in December.  Stan State will host the 50th Annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, April 14-15, at Turlock Golf & Country Club in Turlock, Calif. The 2024-25 CCAA Men's Golf Championships at the Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara, Calif.  This year's NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional will be hosted by The Victoria Club in Riverside, Calif., May 8-10.  The PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., will host the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships, May 19-25.
