Men’s Golf Finishes in Fourth Place at Bill Cullum Invitational; Chomyn Places Eighth

SOMIS, Calif.--- Stan State shot a sixteen-over par 302 in the final round of the 2024 Bill Cullum Invitational today to finish with a three-round score of 913 (+49) to finish in fourth place out of six teams.  Chris Chomyn led the way for the Warriors with his three-over par 219 to finish in eighth place.  Weber State captured the team title with an 883 (+19) at the par-72 The Saticoy Club in Somis, Calif.  Byungho Lee, playing as an individual from Pepperdine, captured individual medalist honors with his seven-under par 209.

WARRIORS: Chris Chomyn finished the three-round tournament with an even-par 72 today to finish with a three-over par 219 (75-72-72).  Finishing in fourteenth place was Jack Peters with his eleven-over par 227.  Peters shot a 76 in the final round to go with his 72 and 79 that he shot in the first two rounds on Monday.  Playing in his first tournament as a Warrior, Ricky Sullivan finished in a tie for 19th place with his sixteen-over par 232 (75-79-78).  Finishing in a four-way tie for twenty-fourth place was Nate Jetton with his nineteen-over par 235 (83-74-78).  Rey Rosas shot a seven-over par 79 today to finish with a 246 (83-83-79) to finish tied for 43rd place. 

PLAYING AS INDIVIDUALS:  Two Warriors played as individuals the past two days in transfer Chase Bird and senior Armaan Sahota.  Bird finished in a tie for 28th place with his 236 (79-81-76).  Sahota finished tied for 40th place with his 244 (83-80-81). 

TEAM SCORES:  Four of the six teams playing in the Bill Cullum Invitational were NCAA Division I teams in Weber State, UC Riverside, Southern Utah, and the hosts Cal State Northridge.  Stan State and Cal State San Marcos were the two teams from NCAA Division II.

Weber State captured the team title with an 883 (+19). The Wildcats shot a 290 today to go with their 303 and 290 to finish with an 883. Fourteen strokes behind Weber State were the Matadors of Cal State Northridge with their 897 (303-300-294).  UC Riverside Highlanders finished in third place with their 898 (301-301-296).  The Warriors finished in fourth place with their 913 (305-304-302).  Finishing in a tie for fifth place was Cal State San Marcos and Southern Utah each with a 936. 

TOP TEN INDIVIDUALS:  Capturing the Bill Cullum Invitational Individual Medalist honors was Byungho Lee who was playing as an individual from Pepperdine.  Lee shot a seven-over par 209 followed by his teammate Joshua Koo with a four-under par 212. One stroke behind Koo was Weber State's Matthew Wilson with a three-under par 213 followed by his teammate Ty Anderson with a two-under par 214.  Finishing in fifth place was UC Riverside's Hartej Grewaj with a one-under par 215 followed by his teammate Stephen Luo and Cal State Northridge's Liam Judkins each with a two-over par 216.  Stan State's Chris Chomyn finished in eighth place with his three-over par 217.  Rounding out the top ten were Nathan Han (Pepperdine) and Chanhee Ryu (UC Riverside) who tied for ninth with their six-over par 220. 

BIRDIES/PARS:  Jack Peters and Chase Bird finished in the top ten with the number of birdies they each recorded in the three-round tournament.  Peters tied for fifth with his nine birdies while Bird recorded eight birdies which tied him for seventh.  With his 33 pars that he recorded the past two days, Peters was fourth in the field in that category. 

UP NEXT:  Stan State will return to the course in Seaside, Calif., to participate in the Otter Invitational at the Bayonet & Blackhorse Golf Course, October 14-15.  The Warriors' final tournaments of the fall will be in the State of Hawai'i, the week of October 21.  Stan State will participate in the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate, October 21-22, at the Mauna Lani North Golf Course in Waimea, Hawai'i.  The Warriors will finish their fall, October 25-26, at the Southwest Airlines HPU Shark Shootout at the Waikoloa Beach Golf Resort in Waikoloa, Hawai'i.
