Women’s Soccer to Face Otters and Gators on the Road

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State will return to the road for a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) games this weekend.  The Warriors will be in Seaside, Calif., this Friday, October 11 for a 7:00 p.m. scheduled match with Cal State Monterey Bay.  They will finish off the weekend this Sunday, October 13 for a 2:00 p.m. match in San Francisco against San Francisco State. 

LAST WEEK:  The Warriors saw both of their rallies fall short in their 0-2 weekend to begin the CCAA season.  Friday against Cal State Dominguez Hills, Stan State tied the match on two unanswered goals by Sabrina Cabrera and Makeila Yancey off assists from Jocelin Roa and Aliah Avila. The Toros scored three unanswered goals to take the 5-2 victory.  Stan State trailed 3-0 to Cal State Los Angeles before scoring its first goal in the 57th minute on a goal by Roa off a pass from Kaley Miller.  The Golden Eagles held off the Warriors' late rally to hold on to the 3-1 victory.

STAN STATE IN REVIEW: The Warriors enter this week with a 3-4-2 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA.  Jocelin Roa and Aliah Avila are tied for the team lead in points each with seven.  Roa leads the team with her three goals and Avila has scored a team leading two game-winning goals.  Shauna Johnston scored the Warriors' third game-winner.  Kaley Miller is tied with Avila for the team lead each with three assists.  Natalia Ochoa has a 1.39 goals against average in seven matches in goal with 18 saves, .720 saves percentage, and two shutouts.  Malia Allen has seen action four matches in goal with a 1.69 goals against average, .667 saves percentage, and ten saves.  Tylin Norman made her first start in goal for the Warriors this weekend and recorded five saves.

CCAA/NCAA RANKED:  Four Warriors are in the top ten in the CCAA in six individual statistical categories.  Natalia Ochoa is tied for sixth with two shutouts, eighth in saves percentage (.784) and saves (18), and ninth with her 1.389 goals against average.  Aliah Avila is tied for second in assists (three) and game-winning goals (two).  Kaley Miller is tied for second with her three assists.  Jocelin Roa's three goals ties her for sixth in the CCAA. 
Aliah Avila is tied for 31st in the nation in NCAA Division II with her two game-winning goals. 

OTTERS IN REVIEW:  Cal State Monterey Bay enters its game with the Warriors on Friday with a 3-0-4 record including going 0-0-2 in the CCAA this weekend.  The Otters played to a scoreless tie at Cal State San Bernardino on Friday and a 2-2 draw at No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona.  Tiger Rendon leads the way for the Otters with her team high two goals scored and team leading five points.  Five Otters including Rendon each have recorded one of their five assists.  Three CSUMB players have scored a game-winning goal in Jennifer Limon, Jaedyn Sanders, and Annabelle Price.  Olivia Saenz has seen most of the time in goal.  She has played in four matches with a 0.29 goals against average, .833 saves percentage, five saves and two and a half shutouts.  Nylah Mirshafiel has seen time in goal in three matches with twelve saves, .857 saves percentage, 0.80 goals against average, and one and a half shutouts. 

ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State leads the all-time series with the Otters 27-5-3 since 2000.  The two teams played to a 2-2 draw in Turlock in 2023.  Aliah Avila scored a goal and assisted on Shauna Johnston's goal.

GATORS IN REVIEW:  Entering its match with Chico State this Friday afternoon, SF State is 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA after losing 3-1 at No. 3 Cal Poly Pomona and 3-0 at Cal State San Bernardino.  Emily Gehrlein-Allen leads the Gators with her two goals which were both game-winning goals.  Lauren Francois and Brynn Reyes each have scored a goal and recorded an assist.  Olivia Chimienti has scored the Gators' other game-winning goal.  Cameryn Nunn has posted a 1.34 goals against average in eight matches with thirty saves and a .750 saves percentage along with two shutouts.  Kylie Tone has a 1.98 goals against average in three matches. 

ALL-TIME SERIES:  Stan State leads the all-time series with the Gators 14-2-4 since 2008.  The Warriors defeated SF State 3-0 in Turlock in 2023. Haylee Heffner scored one of Stan State's three goals off an assist from Haylee Heffner.

UP NEXT:  After Sunday's match at San Francisco State.  Stan State will return home on Student Affairs Night on Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m., when the Warriors entertain Cal Poly Humboldt.   Three days later, they will be in Rohnert Park, Calif., for a 11:30 a.m. starting match with Sonoma State on Sunday, October 20.
