ARCATA, Calif.--- Stan State is now 10-8-2 after a 5-1 loss to the nationally ranked No. 4 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos in the semi-finals of the CCAA Tournament, presented by FloCollege at College Creek Field in Arcata, Calif.
Aliah Avila scored the Warriors' goal in the 23
rd minute, which was her ninth of the season on
Kaley Miller's eighth assist of the season. This was the Warriors' second appearance in the CCAA semi-finals in the last three years.
FIRST HALF: Cal Poly Pomona (16-1-2) had the first chance for the early lead, when
Tylin Norman stopped Auburn Burnett's attempt in just the second minute. Four minutes later, Stan State had a chance for lead when Bella Harra stopped
Jocelin Roa's attempt in the sixth minute. Stan State took the 1-0 lead I the 23
rd minute as
Aliah Avila connected on a ball from
Kaley Miller. The Broncos had two chances to tie the match late in the half be stopped by Norman. The first came in the 41
st minute off the foot of Chloe Green. The second came in the 44
th minute when Giselle Samayoa's attempt was stopped by Norman to send the match into the half with the Warriors leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: Just five minutes into the new half, Vanessa Cruz scored the tying goal unassisted for the Broncos. Four minutes later, Cal Poly Pomona took the 2-1 lead on a goal by Angelina Rivas off a ball from Marisa Salazar. The Broncos added their third goal in the 63
rd minute when Tara Oper connected on a pass from Vanessa Cruz. Stan State had a chance to cut into the deficit, but Bella Hara stopped
Jocelin Roa's attempt in the 64
th minute. Cal Poly Pomona added two more goals in the 75
th minute to take a 5-1 lead.
Sabrina Cabrera looked like she was going to cut into the Bronco lead, but here shot sailed over the top of the goal.
Aliah Avila had a chance for her second goal of the match, but Kat Aguayo made a save for the Broncos in the 81
st minute as they took the 5-1 CCAA semi-final victory. The Broncos will play Cal State East Bay this Sunday, November 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the CCAA Championship Match.
17: This was the tenth appearance for the Warriors in the CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament and second in the semi-finals in the last three years. Stan State, under the guidance of head coach
Gabriel Bolton, finished with his 17
th season with a winning record.

ALL-CCAA: As announced this past Wednesday at the 2024 CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament, five Stan State Warriors were named to the All-CCAA Women's Soccer Team.
Aliah Avila headlined the team for the Warriors as she was named the CCAA Midfielder of the Year and was a First Team All-CCAA selection. Four Warriors were also named to the All-CCAA Team in
Shauna Johnston,
Kaley Miller,
Jocelin Roa, and
Makeila Yancey.
NCAA TOURNAMENT: The official field of the 2024 NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament will be announced this Monday, November 18 at 4:00 p.m. (PT) on
www.ncaa.com. The winner of the CCAA Championship Tournament match between Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State East Bay will receive the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA.
