ROHNERT PARK, Calif.--- Stan State improved to 3-1 this evening after a 75-67 victory over the Hawai'I Pacific Sharks this evening in its second game of the Ron Logsdon Challenge in Rohnert Park, Calif. Four Warriors scored in double figures paced by
Jeremiah Jones' 17 points.
Daniel Ameyaw added 12 points and
Cameron Walker chipped in 11 points.
Lloyd French scored 10 points off the bench for the victors.
FIRST HALF: Cameron Walker's jumper gave the Warriors an early 6-2 lead in the first three minutes of this evening's game. Hawai'i Pacific (2-2) scored the next five points to take a 7-6 on a three by Charlie Weber.
Fabian Reichstadt's lay-up off a pass from Jason Cibuill capped a 14-1 run by the Warriors as they took a 20-8 lead mid-way through the first half. The Sharks cut the Warrior lead to 24-18 with just a little under five minutes left in the half. A
Daniel Ameyaw free throw increased Stan State's lead to 27-18, but the Sharks cut their deficit to 28-27 with ninety seconds left int eh first stanza. Stan State scored the final two points off the half on free throws by
Jonathan Tchengang and
Jason Zimmer to take a 30-27 lead into the half.
SECOND HALF: Stan State came out of the locker room and went on a 12-0 run capped by a
Daniel Ameyaw lay-up to take a 42-27 lead in the first four minutes of the new stanza.
Cameron Walker's three-pointer increased the Warrior lead to 53-35 with 11:34 on the clock. Hawai'I Pacific didn't go away as the Sharks cut the Warrior lead to 65-60 on an old-fashioned three-point play by Charlie Weber with just 97 seconds to go in the game. In the next fifty seconds, Stan State outscored the Sharks 5-0 on a trey by
Jeremiah Jones and two free throws by
Mahda Fallay to take a 70-60 lead. Once again, HPU cut the Warrior lead to five (72-67) this time with just 29 ticks left in regulation.
Jason Cibull's two free throws and
Lloyd French's free throw sealed the Warrior 75-67 victory.
26-12: Stan State's bench outscored the Sharks' bench 26-12 led by
Lloyd French's 10 points in 16 minutes.
Jason Zimmer added eight points and
Fabian Reichstadt chipped in four points. The duo of
Jason Cibull and
William Chavarin each scored two points.
ONCE AGAIN JUST SIX: The Warriors only had six turnovers this evening with ten assists.
Jason Cibull and
Jeremiah Jones each had three assists with no turnovers.
William Chavarin and
Jonathan Tchengang each had one assist with no turnovers.
DEFENSE: Stan State held the Sharks to just 39% shooting from the field including just 33% from three-point land. The Warriors forced 17 turnovers by Hawai'i Pacific including nine by steals (five by
Jonathan Tchengang, two by
Jeremiah Jones, and one each by
Fabian Reichstadt and
Lloyd French.
WHAT A WEEKEND: Jeremiah Jones started his weekend scoring a career high 33 points on 13-for-15 shooting from the field including going two-for-four from beyond the arc in the Warriors' 94-88 victory over Western Oregon at the Ron Logsdon Challenge. He also added four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The senior guard finished with 17 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field while connecting on both of his attempts from three-point land. He added five rebounds, three assists and two steals. For the weekend, he shot 74% from the field including 66.7% from three's with six assists, four steals, nine rebounds and just one turnover while averaging 29.6 minutes per game.
COACH TREVOR: With the Warriors' victory this evening, Coach
Paul Trevor has recorded 75 victories during his time on the sidelines at Stan State. Those 75 victories tie him for fourth most in Warrior men's basketball history with Jim Hanny. For his 14-year career at Stan State and San Francisco State is 182-177.
UP NEXT: Stan State will return to the court this Wednesday, November 20 for a 7:00 p.m. scheduled exhibition game in Moraga, Calif., against the Saint Mary's College Gaels. This will be the first of three exhibition games for the Warriors. After Wednesday evening, Stan State will host begin a three-game home stand hosting UC Merced in the Warriors' home opener at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23 at The Fitzpatrick Arena.
