Men’s Soccer Records First Winning Season Since 2015

TURLOCK, Calif.---   Stan State just missed making the CCAA Men's Soccer Championships Tournament by three points after falling 2-0 to Chico State this afternoon in the Warrior' regular season home finale at Warrior Stadium.  They finished the season 7-6-5 to finish with their first winning season since 2015.

FIRST HALF:  Stan State (7-6-5, 3-4-4 CCAA) had the match's first chance for the lead in just the seventh minute when Alexis Ramirez's shot on goal was stopped by Emanuel Padilla.  Three minutes later, Chico State had a chance for the 1-0 lead be stopped by the Warriors' goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez
The Warriors had another chance in the 15th minute when Edgar Castaneda's shot was stopped by the Chico keeper.  Castaneda had another chance for a goal be stopped in the 23rd minute.  The match's final attempt of the half was once again off the foot of Castaneda be stopped by the Wildcat keeper in the 41st minute to send the match into the half scoreless. 

SECOND HALF:  Chico State (11-2-5, 5-1-5 CCAA) took the 1-0 lead when Miles Rice connected on an unassisted goal in the 53rd minute.  The Wildcat defense came up big in the 66th minute when Alecxander Cueller's shot was stopped by the guests.  Edgar Castaneda looked he was going to tie the match at 1-1 when Emanuel Padilla made another save in the 71st minute.  The Wildcats doubled their lead to 2-0 when Miles Rice scored on a penalty kick with less than three minutes remaining as they took the 2-0 victory. 

THREE POINTS OUT:  Stan State finished in seventh place with its 13 points, just three points out of sixth and final spot for the CCAA Men's Soccer Championships.  The Warriors finished with a 3-4-4 CCAA record.  They were 1-2-4 at home, 6-3-1 on the road, and 0-1 in neutral site matches. 

FIRST SINCE 2015:  Stan State posted its first winning season since 2015 with its 7-6-5 overall record.  The seven victories are the most since Stan State went 15-4-3 in 2015.  Three times since, 2015, the Warriors won six games.
