Despite Stan State Holding the Toros to just 40% Shooting, Warriors Fall on the Road to CSUDH

CARSON, Calif.---  Stan State held its hosts Cal State Dominguez Hills to just 40% shooting from the field including 30% from three-point land this afternoon in Carson, Calif., but the Warriors lost 67-56 to the Toros.  Jeremiah Jones paced the Warriors, who shot just four free throws for the game, with a game high 20 points.  Lloyd French added 11 points off the bench for the Warriors.

FIRST HALF:  Lloyd French's jumper gave Stan State (4-5, 1-2 CCAA) a 12-6 lead nine minutes into the game. Cal State Dominguez Hills outscored the Warriors 8-2 to tie the game at 14-14 on a made free throw by David Cheatom.  Cam Walker's trey off a Daniel Ameyaw assist gave the Warriors back the lead, 17-14.  In the next six minutes, the Toros outscored their guests 13-4 to take a 27-21 lead with just two minutes left in the half.  Stan State scored the final four points of the half on back-to-back lay-ups by Fabian Reichstadt and Jeremiah Jones to cut the deficit to 27-25 heading into the locker room.

SECOND HALF:  Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-3, 3-0- CCAA) went on a 9-0 run to begin the second half to take a 36-27 lead in the first four minutes of the half.  A David Cheatom lay-up increased the Toro lead to 43-34 with 12:26 on the lock.  Back-to-back treys by William Chavarin both off Jason Cibull's assists cut the Warrior deficit to 44-40.  Jordan Hiilstock's trey gave CSUDH a 61-48 lead with just three minutes to go in regulation. Stan State didn't go away as the Warriors cut the Toro lead to 63-56 on a trey by Jonathan Tchengang with 68 seconds on the clock.  The Toros finished off the game by going four-for-four from the line to take the 67-56 victory.

JJ:  For the ninth straight game, Jeremiah Jones scored in double figures with his game high 20 points.  This was the third time this season, he has scored at least 20 points in a game.  Jones weas seven-for-13 from the field including two-for-four from three-point land.  He also was a perfect four-for-four from the line to go with his three assists in 39 minutes.

25 To 4:  Cal State Dominguez Hils was 17-for-25 from the line while the Warriors were just four-for-four from the charity stripe.  Jeremiah Jones connected on all four of Stan State's free throw attempts. 

DEFENSE:  Stan State held the Toros to just 40% shooting from the field including 30% from three-point land.  The Toros went 22-for-55 from the field and just six-of-20 from beyond the arc.  CSUDH shot just 33% in the first half including 18% from the three-point line.

17: The Warriors dished out a season high 17 assists on their 25 made baskets this afternoon.  Three Stan State players had three assists in William Chavarin, Jason Cibull, and Jeremiah Jones.  The other eight assists came from Daniel Ameyaw, Lloyd French, Fabian Reichstadt, and Cameron Walker who each dished out two assists.

THREE MORE IN 2024:    Stan State will have three games left in the 2024 calendar year.  The Warriors will travel to San Francisco, Calif., for a 7:00 p.m. exhibition game at the University of San Francisco on Wednesday, December 11.  They will finish off the calendar year the following week with a conference game in Seaside, Calif., at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 21 with Cal State Monterey Bay and an exhibition game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22 at Sacramento State.
