POMONA, Calif.--- Stan State keeps is 2023-24 CCAA Basketball Championships Tournament hopes alive with a 59-58 victory at Cal Poly Pomona (18-8, 14-7 CCAA) this afternoon in Pomona, Calif.
Liliana Marques paced the Warriors with 16 points as she went four-for-five from three-point land to go with her seven rebounds.
Asha Walker chipped in nine points and recorded four steals.
Taylor Pilot had eight points, seven assists, and two rebounds in 40 minutes.
FIRST QUARTER: The first ten-minute period was back and forth with Andrea Stajic's trey giving the Broncos a 12-10 lead with 2:45 on the clock. Stan State came right back and took a 13-12 lead on a trey by
Iman Addison off a
Taylor Pilot pass.
Asha Walker's trey increased the Warrior lead to 17-14 with just 24 seconds left in the quarter. Two free throws by Sydney Nelson cut the Stan State lead to 17-16 heading into the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER: Jeannette Fine's trey gave Cal Poly Pomona a 24-21 lead with four minutes left in the quarter.

THIRD QUARTER: Asha Walker's trey capped an 8-2 run by the guests as they took a 37-31 lead four minutes into the third quarter. Stan State increased its lead to 41-32 on a
Joia Armstrong lay-up at the 4:15 mark of the third quarter. Cal Poly Pomona cut the deficit to 44-39 on a lay-up by Sydney Nelson with 1:15 left in the quarter. A jumper by
Taylor Pilot off a steal by
Asha Walker gave Stan State a 46-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER: Sydney Nelson's lay-up cut the Warrior lead to 47-43 just two minutes into the final period. The Warriors twice increased their lead to nine including 54-45 on a
Joia Armstrong lay-up midway through the fourth quarter. Cal Poly Pomona outscored the Warriors 13-5 in the final minutes of the game, but it was a little too late as Stan State took the 59-58 road victory.
STILL ALIVE: The Warriors are in a three-way tie for seventh place heading into the final game with Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal Poly Humboldt. They are just one game out of sixth place, which is the final spot for the six-team CCAA Basketball Championships. Sonoma State holds the spot.

SEASON SPLIT: With the win, the Warriors split the season series with the Broncos. Cal Poly Pomona defeated Stan State 94-70 earlier this season in Turlock. The last time the Warriors split the season series with the Broncos was in 2021-22 season. That season the Warriors won 59-58 in Pomona and lost 90-74 in Turlock.
