TURLOCK, Calif--- Sonoma State Seawolves (27-15, 20-10 CCAA) swept today's doubleheader from the hosts, Stan State Warriors, 2-1 and 11-2 (five innings) on the Warriors' Senior Day at Warrior Stadium. Prior to the game, Stan State recognized its two seniors in
Faith Erb and
Mikaela Ferreira.
GAME ONE: Stan State (16-26, 12-19 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead in its half of the first inning.
Lauryn Serda had a lead-off single and went to second on a wild pitch. She advanced to third when
Mikaela Ferreira flew out to right field. Serda scored on a one-out single by
Sasha Martello.
The game remained that way until Sonoma State tied the game in the Seawolf half of the sixth inning. With two outs, Lauren Mirtoni doubled to right center and scored on a Taylor Rapp single to tie the game at 1-1.
The Seawolves took a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning. Kaiya Dickens had a lead-off double and scored on a single by Skylar Linnane.
Sonoma starter, Bailee Reed (14-5), retired the Warriors in order in the bottom of the seventh as the guests took the 2-1 victory.
WARRIOR HITTERS: Stan State had four this with
Lauryn Serda leading the way going two-for-two with a run scored.
Mikaela Ferreira and
Sasha Martello each had the other two hits for the hosts.
STAN STATE PITCHERS: Victoria Alarcon (3-10) suffered the loss in the start for the Warriors. She pitched six innings, giving up seven hits and two runs, while striking out three and walking one.
Sasha Martello pitched a scoreless inning of relief, giving up just one hit.
GAME TWO: Sonoma State scored six runs in the top of the first inning of the night cap to take a 6-0 lead. The Seawolves added two more runs in the second inning capped by a Jasmine Moreno single that scored Lauren Mirtoni as they took an 8-0 lead.
The visitors added three more runs in the third to take an 11-0 lead.
Stan State cut the deficit to 11-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Sasha Martello and
Marissa Cerda had back-to-back lead-off singles. With one out,
Payton Applequist singled to load the bases. Martello scored on a wild pitch for Stan State' second run of the game. Nicole Sarra (5-7) retired the next Warrior to end the game as Sonoma took the night cap, 11-2 in five innings.
WARRIOR HITTERS: Six different Warriors had one hit apiece in
Lauryn Serda,
Mikaela Ferreira,
Sasha Martello,
Marissa Cerda, and
Payton Applequist.
Jessica Gutierrez had a run batted in and Ferreira and Martello each scored the Warriors' runs.
STAN STATE PITCHERS: Shelby Frutoz started the game for Stan State.
Sasha Martello pitched 3.2 innings of relief.
FINAL FIVE ON THE ROAD: The Warriors will end their regular season with five straight games beginning with a make-up game tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. at Cal State San Bernardino. They will be in Hayward, Calif., for a four-game series at Cal State East Bay, April 26-27 to end the regular season.
