TURLOCK, Calif.-- In their second match of the three-day Stan State Volleyball Tournament, the Warriors defeated the visiting Menlo College Oaks in four sets (25-16, 20-25, 25-19, 30-28) for the sixth straight victory to begin their regular season. Stan State will finish off the weekend with a pair of matches in the tournament on Saturday, September 14 versus Jessup University at 2:00 p.m. and Dominican (Calif.) at 7:00 p.m.
FIRST SET: Alex Byrd's kill gave the Warriors an early 4-0 lead in the match. Menlo (2-4) cut the Warrior lead to 6-5, but Stan State came right back and took a 10-6 lead on an
Isabella Saucedo kill off a pass from
Haley Burdo. A kill by
Autumn Kirby increased the hosts lead to 18-10. Avery Krebill's kill cut the Menlo deficit to 19-15. Stan State took the next three points to increase its lead to 22-15. The Warriors scored three of the final four points capped by a
Makenna Carrillo block to take the set 25-16.
SECOND SET: The second set went back and forth with Menlo taking a 10-8 lead on a kill by Jazmyn Tubbs. The Oaks took an 18-10 lead, but Stan State (6-0) cut the deficit to 21-17 on an
Autumn Kirby service ace. A Katharine Mumm kill gave Menlo a 23-17 lead. A kill by
Isabella Saucedo off a pass from
Gabby Rawson cut the Oaks' lead to 23-10. Menlo finished the set off taking the final two points, 25-10 and evened the match at 1-1.
THIRD SET: The Warriors started the third set with a 6-3 lead. A block by
Alex Byrd increased the hosts' lead to 12-7. The Oaks cut the Warrior lead to 17-16, but the Warriors scored the six points capped by an
Autumn Kirby service ace to take a 23-17 lead. They finished the off the set taking two of the final points capped by an
Isabella Saucedo to take the set 25-19 and took a 2-1 lead in the match.
FOURTH SET: Menlo jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the fourth set. A
Gabby Rawson service ace cut the Oak lead to 14-12. The Oaks increased their lead to 20-13, but Stan State rallied and took a 23-22 lead on a
Haley Burdo service ace. The end of the match went back and forth with back-to-back kills by
Autumn Kirby and
Isabella Saucedo both off assists from Burdo gave the Warriors a 30-28 set four victory and the match 3-1.
58 KILLS: The Warriors had 58 kills in 162 attempts for a .241 hitting percentage.
Isabella Saucedo had 20 while
Alex Byrd recorded 14 kills.
Makenna Carrillo added eight and
Autumn Kirby had six for the victors.
SIX: Autumn Kirby had there of the Warriors six service aces with
Haley Burdo recording two and
Gabby Rawson one.
28: Haley Burdo had 28 assists with
Shaelyn Pruiett recording 12 for Stan State.
Gabby Rawson added eight and
Alex Byrd and
Ellison Weaver each had one.
