Volleyball Enters CCAA Play with a 7-1 Record

TURLOCK, Calif.--  Stan State wrapped its own tournament today by going 1-1 to finish its non-conference part of their regular season schedule with a 7-1 record.  The Warriors lost in four to begin the day to Jessup (19-25, 19-25, 25-22, 24-26) but came back this evening to sweep Dominican (25-23, 25-12, 25-10).

JESSUP
FIRST SET:  Jessup (4-3) took an 8-6 lead to begin the match.  Stan State took a 13-12 lead, but Jessup increased its lead to 16-14 on a Taylor Dilley service ace.  A kill by Isabella Saucedo cut Stan State's deficit to 18-17.  The Jessup Warriors finished the set 25-19 by taking seven of the final nine points.

SECOND SET:  The second set went back and forth until Mariah Iosua's kill gave the Warriors a 10-7 lead.  Jessup scored ten of the set's next thirteen points to take a 17-13 lead.  The Jessup Warriors took a 22-15 lead on a kill by Julia Olson.  The Warriors cut the deficit to 22-17 on back-to-back kills by Iosua and Saucedo.  Jessup finished the set taking it 25-19 and took a 2-0 lead.

THIRD SET:  Once again, the third set went back and forth until Stan State took a 19-17 lead.  The Warriors took a 22-19 lead on a kill by Iosua off an assist from Haley Burdo.  The hosts finished the set taking three of the final six points to take the set 25-22 and cut Jessup's lead to 2-1.

FOURTH SET:  A combined block by Sydney Hoffman and Iosua gave Stan State a 5-3 lead in the fourth set.  A Shaelyn Pruiett service increased the Warriors' lead to 11-5. Jessup rallied for eleven of the next fifteen points to take a 16-15 lead.  The next couple of points went back and forth until Jessup took a 23-19 lead.  A combined block by Hoffman and Christallynn Tate cut the Warrior deficit to 23-22.  The Warriors tied the set at 24-24, but Jessup took the set 26-24 and match 3-1.

DOUBLE DOUBLE:  The trio of Haley Burdo, Isabella Saucedo, and Shaelynn Pruiett recorded double-doubles.  Burdo had 32 assists and 10 digs.  Saucedo had 23 kills and 11 digs while Pruiett had 12 assists and 10 digs.

DOMINICAN
FIRST SET:  To begin the match, each team were even until Stan State took a 15-13 lead.  The Warriors took a 20-15 lead on a kill by Isabella Saucedo off a pass from Shaelyn Pruiett.  Dominican (1-5) tied the match at 21-21, but the Warriors took four of the final six points to take the set 25-23.

SECOND SET:  An Ellison Weaver kill off a pass from Pruiett gave the hosts an 11-7 lead.  Stan State increased its lead to 12-7 on a kill by Christallynn Tate.  A kill by Malia Tanksley gave the Warriors a 20-10 lead.  They finished the set off on a Pruiett service ace to take it 25-12 and take a 2-0 lead. 

THIRD SET:  Stan State came out in the third set to take a 10-1 lead capped by a Saucedo kill off a pass from Burdo.  The Warriors took a 19-5 lead on a Tanksley kill off a pass from Kryslin James.  Stan State rolled to the sweep capped by a Leah Mendoza service ace, 25-10, as the Warriors took the match 3-0.

17:  Isabella Saucedo had 17 kills while Sydney Hoffman and Malia Tanksley each had six.

17 TEAM BLOCKS: Stan State had 17 team blocks.  Alex Byrd had six combined blocks followed by Sydney Hoffman and Christallynn Tate each with three. 

26/20:  Devyn Nifo had 26 digs and Haley Burdo had 20 assists to lead the Warriors. 

CCAA: Stan State begins CCAA play Sept. 20-21 on the road.  The Warriors will face Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside on Sept. 20 at 5:00 p.m.  They will travel to Atherton, Calif., to face Cal Sate East Bay on Sept. 21 also at 5:00 p.m.  The Warriors will return home to face Sonoma State on Fri., Sept. 27 at 5:00 p.m.
