Stan State to Face Sunbirds in Home Opener This Wednesday

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State men's soccer team will have its home opener this Wednesday, September 18 at 5:00 p.m. when the Warriors face Fresno Pacific at Warrior Stadium.  The Warriors enter this Wednesday's match with a 3-1 record after going 2-0 this weekend in their trip to the State of Hawai'i. 

HAWAI'I TRIP:  The Warriors went 2-0 in their two matches in the State of Hawai'i this weekend to improve to 3-1.  They started the weekend with a 4-1 win over Chaminade Thursday afternoon.  This was the second time this season that Stan State has scored four goals in a match.  Elio Corral scored twice for the Warriors with Alecxander Cuellar and Leonardo Muniz scoring the other two goals.  Edgar Castaneda had two assists with Marco Carbajal and Kenneth Solares each recording one.  Angel Ruiz-Hernandez had three saves in goal for the victors.

Stan State finished its trip to Hawai'i with a 2-0 win at Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday night.  Jacob Ramirez scored his first goal of the season with Carbajal adding a goal.  Cuellar assisted on Carbajal's goal.  Ruiz-Hernandez had three saves en route to the shutout. 

WARRIORS IN REVIEW:  Stan State is 3-1 entering this week after starting its season on the road.  The Warriors have scored ten goals with seven assists.  Marco Carbajal and Elio Corral each have scored two goals to lead the Warriors.  Scoring the other six goals are Edgar Castaneda, Alecxander Cuellar, Jacob Ramirez, Sammy Villanueva, Adrian Yepez, and Leonardo Muniz.  Castaneda and Cuellar each have a team high two assists.  Carbajal, Jose Ponce, and Kenneth Solares have the other assists for the Warriors.  Cuellar, Ramirez, and Yepez have Stan State's game-winning goals.  Angel Ruiz-Hernandez has a 1.25 goals against average with a .722 saves percentage with a 3-1 record in goal for the Warriors.  He has posted thirteen saves and one shutout.
 
FRESNO PACIFIC IN REVIEW:  The Sunbirds enter Wednesday's match with Stan State with a 0-1-3 record.  They lost 2-0 to Cal State Los Angeles and have tied San Francisco State (2-2), UC Merced (1-1), and Cal Poly Humboldt (1-1).  Lucas Ribeiro leads the team with his three goals with Chris Macias scoring the other Fresno Pacific goal.  Elmer Carballo has a 1.42 goals against average with 12 saves and a .667 saves percentage.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  Stan State leads the all-time series with the Sunbirds 5-4-1.  Fresno Pacific defeated the Warriors 1-0 last season in Fresno when the Sunbirds scored with 13 minutes left in the match.  The last Warrior win over FPU was in 2022, a 4-0 victory in Turlock.  Current Warrior, Alecxander Cuellar, scored three of the Warriors' four goals including the first in the fourth minute.

UP NEXT:  After Wednesday evening's match with FPU, Stan State will be off until next week when the Warriors have their final two non-conference matches on the road.  The Warriors will be in San Francisco for a 11:00 a.m. match with Academy of Art at SF Glens at Treasure Island Field on Wednesday, September 25.  They will finish off their non-conference play with a 7:00 p.m. match at Chico State on Saturday, September 28.  Stan State returns home October 4 and 6 when the Warriors begin CCAA play against Cal State Dominguez Hills (Friday, October 4 at 4:30 p.m.) and #3 Cal State Los Angeles (Sunday, October 6 at 11:30 a.m.)
