Volleyball to Begin CCAA Play on the Road

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State, who is off to a 7-1 start, will begin California Collegiate Athletic Association action this weekend with a pair of road matches.  The Warriors will be at Cal State Monterey in Seaside, Calif., this Friday, September 20.  This Saturday, September 21, Stan State will travel to Atherton, Calif., to face Cal State East Bay on the campus of Menlo College.  Both matches are scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.   

WARRIORS:  Stan State went 3-1 in its own tournament this past weekend.  The Warriors extended their winning streak to two after winning the first matches against UC Merced in three and Menlo in four.  They had their streak snapped with a four-set loss to Jessup.  Stan State won its final match with a three-set win over Dominican. 

Isabella Saucedo paced the Warriors with her 65 kills.  She had a .315 hitting percentage and added 35 digs and six total blocks.  Alex Byrd added a team high 17 total blocks and hit for a .545 hitting percentage.  Autumn Kirby added eleven total blocks for the Warriors to go with her five service aces. Leading the way in digs were Gabby Rawson with 48 and Devyn Nifo with 46 digs.  Haley Burdo added 89 assists while Shaeylyn Pruiett added 46. 

ALL-TOURNAMENT:  Isabella Saucedo and Alex Byrd each were named to the All-Tournament at the Stan State Volleyball Tournament.  Saucedo recorded a double-double with a career high 23 kills while adding 11 digs in the Warriors' match versus Jessup.  She also had 20 kills in Stan State's three-set win over Menlo.  The junior outside hitter had 65 kills for the weekend to go with her 35 digs and six total blocks.  Byrd had a career high 14 kills and hit for a .778 hitting percentage in the Warrior win over Menlo.  She finished the weekend with 17 total bocks and 26 kills for a .545 hitting percentage. 

OTTERS:  Cal State Monterey Bay is 1-6 entering this weekend after losing three straight to Westmont, Western Oregon, and Azusa Pacific all in four sets.  Abby Witzansky has a team high 55 kills followed by Malia Peterson with 54.  Hannah Jo Castillon has recorded a team leading 137 assists while Ruby Ennnis has 111 assists.  Ennis leads the team with her seven service aces.  Mia Dilley leads CSUMB with her 105 digs and Malia Thorne has a team high 18 total blocks. 

ALL-TIME SERIES:  Cal Sate Monterey Bay leads the all-time series with the Warriors 22-15.  The Otters defeated Stan State in four sets last year in Seaside.  Ellison Weaver recorded nine kills and Haley Burdo added 20 assists while Gabby Rawson had 15 digs.  Stan State last defeated the Otters in 2022 in Turlock with a four-set win.  Rawson had 26 digs and Burdo added 26 assists. 

PIONEERS:  Cal State East Bay 5-3 entering this weekend's matches.  The Pioneers will face Chico State on Friday evening before hosting the Warriors on Saturday in Atherton.  They have won five of their last six matches including defeating CSU Pueblo in three and Concordia in four.  Lexi Pagani has a team leading 98 kills followed by Alexandria Gloria with 69.  Pi'ilani Carvalho leads the Pioneers with her 213 assists.  Alexandria Gloria leads East Bay with her 15 service aces while Mia Jordan has a team high 24 total blocks.  Kale'a Kuamo'o has recorded a team high 121 digs.

ALL-TIME SERIES:  The Pioneers lead the all-time series 21-16 with Stan State.  Cal State East Bay won the last meeting in three sets last season in Hayward.  Ellison Weaver led the way for the Warriors with her 14 kills while Haley Burdo added 16 assists and Alex Byrd recorded seven total blocks.  Stan State defeated the Pioneers in 2022 in Hayward in four sets behind Mariah Iosua's nine kills and Gabby Rawson's four service aces.

UP NEXT:  Stan State returns home September 27 when the Warriors host Sonoma State at 5:00 p.m. This will be the beginning of a four-match home stand for the Warriors.  They will also host Cal Poly Humboldt (Saturday, September 28), San Francisco State (Friday, October 4), and No. 19 Cal State San Bernardino (Saturday, October 5).
