SEASIDE, Calif.--- Stan State (8-1, 1-0 CCAA) began California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play with a four-set road win over Cal State Monterey Bay at The Otter Sports Center in Seaside, Calif.
Haley Burdo recorded her second double-double of the season with 16 assists and 15 digs.
Ellison Weaver added 11 kills for the victors.
FIRST SET: The guests began the match with a 11-2 lead keyed by three
Isabella Saucedo kills. An Otter kill by Jackie Wahl cut the Warriors' lead to 12-8 but a kill by
Malia Tanksley off a
Shaelyn Pruiett assist increased Stan State's lead to 18-10. Back-to-back kills by
Ellison Weaver and Tanksley capped the set as Stan State took the first set 25-16.
SECOND SET: Cal State Monterey (1-7, 0-1 CCAA) came out of the intermission and took an 8-1 lead on a combined block by Ruby Ennis and Mikayla Nolte. Stan State cut the Otter lead to 12-9, but Cal State Monterey Bay increased its lead to 16-9. Stan State didn't go away as the Warriors cut the deficit to 18-15 on a kill by
Mariah Iosua off a pass from
Haley Burdo. CSUMB took a 22-17 lead and Weaver's kill off a pass from Pruiett cut Stan State's deficit to 22-18. The hosts finished the set taking three of the final four points to even the match at 1-1 and taking the set 25-19.
THIRD SET: Mikayla Nolte's kill gave CSUMB a 6-1 lead to begin the third set. The Warriors took ten of the next 13. Points capped by two kills by
Mariah Iosua and one by
Alex Byrd to give Stan State a 11-9 lead. A Nolte kill decreased Stan State's lead to 13-12, but the Warriors rallied for the next four points to take a 17-12 lead keyed by a
Christallynn Tate kill off a pass from
Shaelyn Pruiett. The Otters kept on chipping at Stan State's lead and cut it to 23-19, but the Warriors' finished the set off on a kill by Iosua and an
Ellison Weaver, 25-19 and took a 2-1 lead in the match.
FOURTH SET: The Warriors came out on fire after the three minute break to take a 4-0 lead keyed by three kills (one each by
Emily Meyer,
Autumn Kirby, and
Mariah Iosua). A Lilly Bandle service ace capped a 9-4 rally by the hosts as they took a 9-8 lead. The match went back and forth until the Warriors rallied for four straight points with three coming on kills by
Haley Burdo, Christalynn Tate, and
Emily Meyer to take a 23-19 lead. A kill by Brenna Duggan cut the Warrior lead to 23-20. Stan State finished the set and match off scoring the final two points on kills by Meyer and
Shaelyn Pruiett to take the set 25-20 and match 3-1.
WEAVER: Ellison Weaver tied her season high with a team high 11 kills this evening. She had a .259 hitting percentage to go with her nine digs, one service ace, and one total block.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Haley Burdo recorded her second double-double of the season with 16 assists and 15 digs.
EIGHT: Stan State had eight service aces this evening paced by
Autumn Kirby's three.
Gabby Rawson added two aces while
Ellison Weaver,
Shaelyn Pruiett, and
Isabella Saucedo each had one.
UP NEXT; The Warriors continue their mini two-match road trip tomorrow, September 21 at 5:00 p.m. against Cal State East Bay at Haynes-Prim Pavilion on the campus of Menlo College in Atherton, Calif. The Pioneers defeated Chico State in four sets (25-19, 25-18, 24-26, 25-20) earlier this evening in Atherton. This was Cal State East Bay's fourth straight victory of the season. After Saturday's match, Stan State will return home to Fitzpatrick Arena to begin a four-match home stand. The Warriors will entertain Sonoma State (September 27), Cal Poly Humboldt (September 28), San Francisco State (October 4), and No. 19 Cal State San Bernardino (October 5). All four matches are scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
