Men’s Soccer Posts Second Shutout of the Season in 2-0 Win Over Academy of Art

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.---  Stan State recorded its second shutout in its last three matches with a 2-0 road win over Academy of Art at the SF Glens at Treasure Island Field in San Francisco.  Alecxander Cuellar and Kenneth Solares each scored the Warriors' goals.  Jacob Ramirez assisted on Solares' goal.  Angel Ruiz-Hernandez had five saves in goal for his second shutout of the season. 
 
FIRST HALF:  Academy of Art (1-3-1) recorded the first shot on goal attempt in the ninth minute as Angel Ruiz-Hernandez made one of his five saves on the day stopping Xander Cleaves' shot on goal attempt.  Two minutes later, Stan State had a chance for the early lead but Elio Corral's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Urban Knights' Florian Grollman.  Stan State took the 1-0 lead in the 19th minute when Alecxander Cuellar connected on a free kick from just outside the box for his second goal of the season.  The Warriors had a couple of chances to double their lead including in the 29th minute when Edgar Castaneda's shot was stopped by Academy of Art's keeper.  The Urban Knights looked like it was going to tie the match at 1-1 in the 40th minute when Keita Goto's shot attempt went over the goal as the match went into the half with Stan State leading 1-0.
 
SECOND HALF:  In the 75th minute, Jacob Ramirez recorded the first shot on goal attempt in the second half but the hosts' Grollmann made one of his three saves on the day.  With eleven minutes left in regulation, Stan State's Ruiz-Hernandez made another save this time stopping Keita Goto's shot.  Not even four minutes later, the Urban Knights had another chance to tie the match, but the Warriors' keeper stopped Fabrizio Garrido's shot on goal to preserve the guests' 1-0 lead.  The Warriors solidified the victory in the 87th minute as Kenneth Solares connected on his first goal off a cross from Jacob Ramirez to double their lead to 2-0.  Neither team recorded a shot attempt in the final minute as Stan State took the 2-0 victory.
 
STREAK TO FOUR:  Stan State (4-1-1) ran its unbeaten streak to four with its 2-0 win this afternoon.  In those four matches, the Warriors allowed just three goals and scored ten goals. 
 
FIRST ONE:  Kenneth Solares scored his first collegiate goal this afternoon.  He already has assisted on two goals this season.  Jacob Ramirez assisted on Solares' goal for his first assist as a Warrior.  Ramirez has scored two goals to go with his one assist this season.
 
NUMBER TWO:  Alecxander Cuellar has scored two of the Warriors' four game-winning goals.  Earlier this season, he scored the game-winner in Stan State's 4-1 win at Chaminade.  Jacob Ramirez and Adrian Yepez has recorded the other two game-winning goals for the Warriors.  With his two goal this afternoon, Cuellar has taken the team lead in scoring with six points (six goals, two assists).
 
SEASON HIGH:  Angel Ruiz-Hernandez recorded a season high five saves this afternoon en route to his second shutout of the season in goal for Stan State.  For the season, he has a 1.17 goals against average with 21 saves and a .750 saves percentage. 
 
UP NEXT:  Stan State will finish off its non-conference slate this Saturday evening, September 28, with a 7:00 p.m. at Chico State.  The Warriors will begin CCAA play with two matches at home October 4 and 6.  The Warriors will host Cal State Dominguez Hills at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 4.  Two days later, Stan State will host No. 3 Cal State Los Angeles at 11:30 a.m.
