TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State women's soccer team will begin their 2024 regular season, Sept. 5 and 7 with two important NCAA Division II West Region match-ups against opponents from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). The Warriors will face Saint Martin's this Thursday, Sept. 5 at 11:00 a.m. PT in Lacey, Wash. They will finish their weekend with a 2:00 p.m. PT match with Simon Fraser in Burnaby, British Columbia.
THE WARRIORS: The Warriors finished the 2023 season 8-6-5 overall and 5-2-4 in the CCAA. They mae their ninth appearance in the CCAA Soccer Championships in which the Warriors hosted Cal Poly Humboldt in a First Round match-up. Stan State returns three All-CCAA honorees in
Aliah Avila (Second Team),
Makeila Yancey (Honorable Mention), and
Malia Allen (Honorable Mention). Avila was the CCAA Freshman of the Year. Senior
Sabrina Cabrera returns after a shortened season in 2024. Cabrera was the 2023 CCAA Newcomer of Year and a First Team All-CCAA honoree.
Allen was in goal for thirteen matches in her first season as a Warrior. She posted a 0.72 goals against average with 62 saves and a .886 saves percentage.
Natalia Ochoa posted a 1.72 goals against average with 35 saves and a .714 saves percentage in her ten matches in goal.
Avila saw action in all 19 matches in 2023. She scored three goals while assisting on six goals. Yancey saw action in all but one match last season and assisted on three goals. Top returning goal scorers to join Avila and Yancey are
Haylee Heffner (four goals, one assist),
Kayla Perez (three goals, one assist), and
Arionna Imhoff (two goals).
SAINT MARTIN'S: The Saints went 3-8-7 last season including 1-7-6 in GNAC matches. Goalkeeper Flavia Burrell returns for the Saints from 2023. She posted a 1.14 goals against average with a .792 saves percentage in ten matches in goal. Alia Khoyi is the Saints' leading returning scorer with one goal, three assists, and five points. Rayvn Mummey and Payton Aselton are back too for Saint Martin's. Mummey scored two goals last season and Aselton had a goal and an assist.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State leads the all-time series with the Saints 2-0-1. The two teams played to a scoreless tie in Monmouth, Ore., in 2023.

Natalia Ochoa each played a half in goal or the Warriors.
SIMON FRASER: The Red Leafs went 8-5-6 last season with a 5-5-4 GNAC record. They captured the GNAC Championship Tournament to win the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA DII Tournament. Simon Fraser lost to Cal State Los Angeles in the first round 2-0 in penalty kicks. Mikalya Tupper turns after being named the GNAC Co-Newcomer of the Year in 2023. She scored five goals and had one assist. The Red Leafs' leading scorer from last year returns in Kate Cartier after scoring six goals and recording two assists. All-GNAC goalkeeper Sarah Loewen returns after posting a 0.89 goals against average with 0.838 saves percentage. She posted eight shutouts in her 19 matches in goal.
ALL-TIME SERIES: The Warriors lead the all-time series 5-0 with Simon Fraser. The two teams last faced each other in 2019 when Stan State defeated the Red Leafs 1-0 in Turlock.
UP NEXT: After Saturday's match in Canada, Stan State will come home to Warrior Stadium for a pair of non-conference matches. The Warriors will host Western Oregon on Thursday, Sept. 12 and Southern: Oregon on Saturday, Sept. 14. Both matches will have a 7:00 p.m. PT scheduled start time.
