Warriors Fall to Pioneers Despite Four Players in Double Digits

HAYWARD, Calif.--  Stan State finished its consecutive weekend 1-1 after an 82-67 loss to Cal State East Bay this evening in Hayward, Calif.  The Warriors lost to the Pioneers despite four players scoring double digits led by Jonathan Tchengang's career high 18 points.  Jeremiah Jones added 15 points while Lloyd French scored 14 points and Jason Cibull chipped in 12 points.

FIRST HALF:  Stan State (7-7, 4-4 CCAA) jumped out to an early 10-6 lead in the first five minutes of the game.  In the next five minutes, Cal State East Bay went on a 17-2 run to take a 23-12 lead capped by a Ramsey Huff trey. The Pioneers increased their lead to 31-18 with eight minutes left in the half on a DJ Sanders' jumper in the paint.  Lloyd French's lay-up capped a 6-0 run by the Warriors as they cut the deficit to 31-24 with 6:28 left in the first half.  Teiano Hardee's layup increased the hosts' lead to 37-26 with 4:12 on the clock.  French's lay-up cut the Pioneer lead to 37-32 as the Warriors went on another 6-0 run with just three minutes left in the half.  The Pioneers finished the half outscoring the Warriors 13-0 to take a 50-32 heading into the half.

SECOND HALF:  Payden White's trey capped the Pioneers' 8-2 run to begin the second half to give the hosts a 58-34 lead.  Stan State didn't go away as the Warriors outscored the Pioneers 19-7 to cut their deficit to 65-53 at the 10:47 mark of the second stanza.  With 5:24 left in regulation, Cal State East Bay (6-8, 4-4 CCAA) took a 76-60 lead on a Jordan Espinoza jumper. Jeremiah Jones' lay-up off a Lloyd French assist capped a Warrior 7-3 run as they cut their deficit to 79-67, but it was a little too late as the Pioneers took the 82-67 victory. 

JT AND LLOYD:  For the second consecutive night, Jonathan Tchengang scored his career high this time with a team high 18 points.  Tchengang went seven-for-14 from the field including two-of-three from three-point land and was two-for-two from the line.  Lloyd French scored his season high with 14 points off the bench in 22 minutes.  He went six-for-12 from the field and was two-for-three from the line. 

13/6:  With his 15 points this evening, Jeremiah Jones scored in double digits for the 13th straight game.  He was a perfect nine-for-nine from the line, dished out three assists, and recorded two steals.  Jason Cibull scored 12 points as he now has scored in double digits in six straight games.  Cibull was four-for-nine from three-point land to go with his three assists.

FOUR IN DOUBLE DIGITS:  Stan State had four players score in double figures this evening in Hayward, Calif.  Jonathan Tchengang had a career high 18 points to go with his five rebounds, three steals, and one assist.  Lloyd French scored a season high 14 points off the bench in 22 minutes to go with his four rebounds and two steals.  Jeremiah Jones chipped in 15 points while Jason Cibull added 12 points.

UP NEXT:  Stan State will finish its four-game road trip this coming weekend with two games in Southern California at Cal State San Bernardino (January 16 at 7:30 p.m.) and at Cal Poly Pomona (January 18 at 3:00 p.m.).  The Warriors will return home to The Fitz on January 23 when they host Sonoma State at 7:30 p.m. to begin a four-game home stand.
