ARCATA, Calif.---The Warriors, receiving votes nationally, came up just short Friday afternoon, falling 1-0 to the Lumberjacks (5-3-4, 3-0-2 CCAA) at College Creek Field. Despite a strong defensive effort and four saves from goalkeeper
Zara Mujica, a quick second-half strike by the home side proved decisive.
With the result, Stanislaus State moved to 5-3-4 overall and 1-2-2 in CCAA play, and is now 1-1-3 on the road this season. The Lumberjacks remained unbeaten in conference action.
First Half
The opening 45 minutes were tightly contested as both sides traded early chances. Mujica came up with two key stops in the first half — including a save on a point-blank shot by Humboldt's Karsyn Ross — to keep the match scoreless.
Kellyann Rodriguez provided the Warriors' first look on goal in the 15th minute, forcing a save from Humboldt's Ariana Beddoes.
Second Half
The Lumberjacks found the breakthrough less than two minutes after halftime, when Karsyn Ross finished a cross from Frida Duran Arellano in the 47th minute to make it 1-0. Stan State pressed for an equalizer, out-shooting Humboldt 5-3 in the second half. Late efforts from
Haylee Sousa,
Kayla Perez, and
Olivia Maragos were turned aside by goalkeeper Carson Thomson-Terrel, who made three saves after the break to preserve the shutout.
In the closing moments,
Reyna Dismukes nearly found the equalizer with a strong strike in the final two minutes, but Thomson-Terrel again came up with the save to secure the result for the Lumberjacks.
