TURLOCK, Calif.---A strong second-half rally wasn't quite enough for Stanislaus State women's soccer on Friday night, as the Warriors fell 2–1 to Chico State in a competitive CCAA match-up at Warrior Stadium. In front of their largest home crowd of the season, the Warriors battled back from an early deficit and controlled much of the second half behind a penalty-kick goal from junior Jocelin Roa, her second of the season.

First Half
Chico State's Taylor McMahon struck twice in quick succession in the opening 25 minutes, scoring in the 20th minute off an assist from Makayla Cruz-Martinez and again two minutes later to give the Wildcats a 2–0 advantage. The Warriors settled into the match and generated quality chances, including shots from Makeila Yancey and Haylee Sousa, but Chico held a two-goal lead at the break despite a late Stan State push.

Second Half
The Warriors came out aggressive after halftime, taking six of their 11 total shots in the second half while holding Chico to just one attempt over the final 45 minutes. In the 51st minute, Roa was fouled in the box and calmly converted the ensuing penalty kick to bring Stanislaus State within one. The Warriors continued to press late, earning multiple corners and testing the Chico defense, but the equalizer narrowly eluded them. Goalkeeper Zara Mujica made three saves, including a key stop in the 78th minute to keep the Warriors within reach.

CCAA Soccer Championship Tournament
The six-team CCAA Soccer Championship Tournament begins with first-round matches on Sunday, Nov. 9, at the site of the higher seeds. The semifinals and finals will be played at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside, on the campus of Cal State Monterey Bay, Friday through Sunday, Nov. 14–15. The top two seeds receive first-round byes, and the tournament champion earns the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Championships. Stanislaus State women's soccer currently sits in 10th place in the CCAA standings at 2-3-2 (6-4-4 overall), while UC Merced remains ineligible for postseason play this season. Chico State improved to 7-5-2 overall and 5-2-0 in CCAA play with the win.
