Stan State Battles No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona in Four Sets at Fitzpatrick Arena

TURLOCK, Calif.--- The Stan State volleyball team battled nationally ranked No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona in front of the home crowd Friday night but fell in four sets, 25–23, 19–25, 22–25, 23–25, in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play at Fitzpatrick Arena.

Stanislaus State (10–10 overall, 8–5 CCAA) took the opening set behind a strong defensive effort and steady serving before the Broncos (15–4, 13–0 CCAA) rallied to win the next three frames in a tightly contested match that featured 26 ties and 12 lead changes. Earlier in the evening, Cal State San Bernardino defeated San Francisco State 3–0 in San Francisco, tightening the CCAA postseason race heading into Saturday's matches.

FIRST SET
Stanislaus State started fast, using four service aces and a balanced attack to win 25–23. Emily Meyer and Christallynn Tate each landed key kills, while Lauren Gonzales served three straight aces to close out the opening frame.

SECOND SET
Cal Poly Pomona's offense found rhythm in set two, hitting .281 while holding Stan State to .158. The Red and Gold stayed within reach early, but a late Bronco run evened the match, 25–19.

THIRD SET
Stanislaus State again kept it close throughout a back-and-forth third set that saw four ties. Maggie Olson sparked the offense off the bench with seven kills on .333 hitting, but Cal Poly Pomona pulled away late for a 25–22 win.

FOURTH SET
Stan State fought from behind in the fourth, erasing a five-point deficit to tie the set 23–23 before the Broncos held on 25–23 to clinch the match.

STAN STATE NOTABLES Stanislaus State hit .222 as a team and recorded seven aces but could not overcome the Broncos' .267 attack percentage. The loss snapped Stan State's three-match win streak but kept the program firmly in postseason contention.

The Stan State volleyball team remains firmly in the CCAA postseason picture despite Friday's four-set loss to No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona, sitting in fifth place in the latest conference standings at 8–5. Cal Poly Pomona (13–0) continues to lead the league, followed by Cal State LA (11–2), Cal State San Bernardino (10–3), and Cal State East Bay (9–4). Stan State holds a two-match lead over sixth-place San Francisco State (6–7) with four regular-season matches remaining as the Red and Gold aim for their second consecutive appearance and third in the last four years in the CCAA Volleyball Championship Tournament, which they will host November 20–22 at Fitzpatrick Arena.

UP NEXT
Stanislaus State continues its home weekend Saturday night when it hosts Cal State San Bernardino at 5 p.m. The Red and Gold will then visit UC Merced on Thursday, November 2 (7 p.m.) before celebrating Senior Night on Saturday, November 4 (5 p.m.) against Cal State Monterey Bay. The regular season concludes on the road at Cal State LA (Nov. 14, 5 p.m.) and Cal Poly Pomona (Nov. 15, noon).
