No. 3 Warriors Earn Spot in CCAA Championship With 2-0 Win Over Cal State East Bay

SEASIDE, Calif.--- No. 3 nationally ranked Stan State men's soccer is headed to the CCAA Championship match after defeating Cal State East Bay, 2-0, in Friday's semifinal at Cal State Monterey Bay. The Warriors scored once in each half and recorded their 10th shutout of the season to earn a place in Sunday's title game at 11:30 a.m. against the winner of the Cal State Dominguez Hills–Cal State San Marcos semifinal.

First Half
Stan State struck first in the 32nd minute when Emmanuel Duran broke through with a composed finish inside the box after a setup from Adrian Yepez, giving the Warriors an early 1-0 advantage. The goal marked Duran's eighth of the season and third game-winner of the year. The Warriors controlled possession and outshot East Bay 7-2 in the opening period, keeping the Pioneers under constant pressure. The back line, led by Samuel Villanueva and Christian Brenes, along with Ian Reis, Federico Barbieri, and David Lozano, held East Bay in check to preserve the one-goal lead heading into halftime.

Second Half
The Warriors added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute as Alexis Cervantes buried a one-time finish off a perfectly placed cross from Jose Tizoc to make it 2-0. From there, Stan State's defense stayed organized and disciplined, allowing just three second-half shots. Goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez made four saves to secure his record-breaking ninth shutout of the season, establishing a new single-season program mark, and the 14th of his career.
