TURLOCK, Calif. – Stan State volleyball battled through five sets Thursday night at Fitzpatrick Arena, but the Warriors fell just short in a CCAA Tournament quarterfinal heartbreaker to San Francisco State, 25-16, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 9-15.
Set 1 – Stan State 25, SF State 16
The Warriors opened strong in front of their home crowd, racing out to an 8–1 lead behind a service ace from
Lauren Gonzales and three early kills by
Malia Tanksley. Stan State controlled the set from start to finish, hitting .250 and capitalizing on four Gator attack errors to take the opener 25–16.
Set 2 – SF State 25, Stan State 20
The second set was tight early with 15 ties before San Francisco State pulled away late. The Gators hit .459 in the frame while limiting the Warriors to .448. Tanksley led Stan State with five kills, but a late 5–1 run by SF State evened the match at one set apiece.
Set 3 – Stan State 25, SF State 23
Stan State regained momentum in a gritty third set that featured six lead changes.
Emily Meyer came up big with timely swings and teamed with
Lauren Hamilton at the net for key points. The Warriors held off a late Gator rally to close it out 25–23 and move ahead 2–1.
Set 4 – SF State 25, Stan State 22
The Gators forced a decisive fifth after another back-and-forth battle. Stan State's blocking trio of Meyer, Hamilton, and
Fallon Freeman kept the Warriors close, but San Francisco State broke a 19–19 tie with a late push to win 25–22.
Set 5 – SF State 15, Stan State 9
San Francisco State carried its momentum into the final set, jumping ahead 7–1. Stan State fought back with kills from Freeman and Hoffman, but the Gators sealed it 15–9 to advance to Friday's semifinals.
Stan State hit .241 overall and collected 85 digs, led by
Shaelyn Pruiett's 21. Tanksley finished with 13 kills and a .276 hitting percentage for her ninth double-double of the season, while Meyer added nine kills, 11 digs, and four blocks.
