Bird Leads the Way for the Warriors the First Two Rounds of Fujikura

VISTA, Calif.---  Stan State started its spring season this morning competing in the 54-hole CSUSM Fujikura Invitational at the par-72 Shawdowbrige Golf Club in Vista, Calif.  Chase Bird leads the way for the Warriors with his one-over par 145 (70-75) which ties him for 14th place.  As a team, Stan State shot a two-round score of eighteen-over par 594 (305-289).  The final round of the Fujikura will begin at 8:00 a.m. in a shotgun start at the Shadowbridge Golf Club.

WARRIORS:  Stan State started its morning shooting a 17-over par 305 in Round One of the Fujikura.  The Warriors came back to shoot an one-over par 289 to finish with an 18-over par 594 which placed them in seventh place out of 13 teams.  Leading the way for the Warriors was Chase Bird with his one-over par 145 (70-75) to place him in a tie for 14th place with Saint Mary's Guillaume Paquette.  Two strokes behind Bird is Jack Peters with his three-over par 147 (77-70).   Peters is in a five-way tie for 21st place. Nate Jetton and Chris Chomyn are in a ten-way tie for 37th place as each Warrior shot a seven-over par 151.  Jetton shot a 79 this morning and rebounded with a 72 in the afternoon.  Chomyn started the invite with a 76 and shot a 75 this afternoon.  Sitting in a tie for 66th place is Drew Pritchard with his 16-over par 160.  Playing as an individual is Rey Rosas who shot a seven-over par 151 (75-76) to be placed in a tie for 37th place.

TOP THREE TEAMS:  St. Mary's (Tex.) is in the lead with the Rattlers' five-under par 571 (284-287) followed by the hosts, Cal State San Marcos.  The Cougars shot a three-under par 573 (283-290) followed by Colorado State Pueblo.  The Thunderwolves shot a three-over par 579.  Stan State is in seventh place with its 594 which is just two strokes out of sixth place (Cal State San Bernardino 592).  Fellow CCAA member, Sonoma State, sits in fifth place with its ten-over par 586.  The Warriors are ahead of Chico State, who is in eighth place with a 19-over par 595.

TOP THREE INDIVIDUALS:  Sonoma State's Ivan Sabian shot a seven-under par 137 (68-69) which places him in first place heading into tomorrow's final round.  The St. Mary's (Tex.) duo of Kongpop Kaikaew and Elijah Galvan are tied for second with their three-under par 141. 

EAGLES/BIRDIES/PARS ANYONE: Stan State's Chris Chomyn recorded an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole in the second round this afternoon.  Chase Bird has six birdies after the first two rounds.  To go with his six birdies are twelve pars in the first 36 holes of the Fujikura.  Jack Peters and Nate Jetton each have 24 pars.  Peters has four birdies to go with his 24 pars while Jetton had pars on 14 of the final 18 holes of his first two rounds today.

TOMORROW'S PAIRINGS:  The Warriors will be paired with Chico State and Cal State Dominguez Hills in the final round which will be a shotgun starting at 8:00 a.m.  They will start on holes 11 through 15.  Rey Rosas will start on hole 17 with a golfer from Westmont and from Cal State San Bernardino. 

UP NEXT: After tomorrow's final round, Stan State will return to the golf course, February 24-26, at the 54-hole three-day Battle in the Desert at Rams Hill Golf Course in Borrego Springs, Calif.
