Chase Bird led the Warriors with his three-round score of three-over par 219

Men’s Golf Places 7th; Bird Ties For 11th at CSUSM Fujikura

VISTA, Calif.---   Playing in their first tournament since the Southwest Airlines/HPU Shark Shootout in late October, Stan State finished in seventh place at the 13-team CSUSM/Fujikura Invitational at the par-72 Shawdowbridge Country Club in Vista, Calif.  The Warriors shot a three-round score of 898 (305-289-304) with St. Mary's (Tex.) capturing the Fujikura with an eleven-under par 853.  Chase Bird led the way for Stan State with his three-over par 219 which placed him in a three-way tie for 11th place.  The Rattlers' Kongpop Kaikaew was the individual medalist with a five-under par 211.

WARRIORS:  After shooting an 18-over par 594 in the first two rounds on Monday, Stan State shot a 304 (+16) to finish with an 898 (+34) to finish in seventh place.  The Warriors were seven strokes out of sixth place #22 Chico State's 891.  Chase Bird led the way for the Warriors with his three-over par 219 (73-72-74) to finish in a three-way tie for 11th place with Cal State Dominguez Hills' Jonah Camarillo and Colorado State Pueblo's Archie Wyatt.  Three strokes behind Bird in a tie for 20th place was Chris Chomyn with a six-over par 222 (76-75-71).  Jack Peters shot a 226 (+10) to finish in a tie for 31st place with his three scores of 77-70-79.  Finishing three strokes behind Peters was Nate Jetton with his 231 (79-72-80), which tied him for 47th place.  Sitting in 64th place with his 242 (77-81-84) was Drew Pritchard.  Playing as an individual was Rey Rosas who shot a 233 (75-76-82) to finish in a tie for 56th place. 

TOP THREE TEAMS:  St. Mary's (Tex.) won the CSUSM Fujikura with its eleven-under par 853 (284-287-282).  Finishing in second place was the tournament host, Cal State San Marcos, with its five-over par 869 (283-290-296).  No. 36 Simon Fraser shot a nine-over par 873 (293-290-290) to finish in third place. 

TOP THREE INDIVIDUALS:  St. Mary's (Tex.) Kongpop Kaikaew finished with a five-under par 211 (72-69-70) to capture individual medalist honors.  Finishing in second place was Simon Frase's Danny Im with a three-over par 213 (70-73-70). Cal State San Marcos' Jason McElroy and St. Mary's Guillaume Paquette finished in a tie for third pace each with a two-under par 214. 

EAGLES/BIRDIES/PARS ANYONE: Stan State's Chris Chomyn recorded two eagles during the 54-hole tournament.  His first came in the second round on the par-5 seventh hole.  Chomyn's second eagle came in the final round on the par-5 14th hole.  Chase Bird recorded a par on 37 of the 54 holes he played in during the past two days.  Rey Rosas recorded 36 pars during the two days while Chomyn had 35 and Jack Peters 33.
