GOODYEAR, Ariz.--- Stan State began its five day two the State of Arizona with a two-over par 578 (297-281) in the 36-hole Hot Dirt Desert Shootout this afternoon. The Stan State duo of
Chris Chomyn and
Ricky Sullivan finished with an even-par 144 at the par-72 Golf Club of Estrella.
WARRIORS: Chris Chomyn, who is ranked first in the Wet Region, and
Ricky Sullivan each shot an even-par score of 144 to finish in a six-way tie for 24
th place. The duo each shot a 75 this morning and came back with a three-under par 69 to finish with a 144. Finishing five strokes behind the duo was
Nate Jetton with a five-over par 149 (76-73). Jetton finished in a nine-way tie for 40
th place. Two strokes behind Jetton was
Jack Peters with a seven-over par 151 (71-80).
Chase Bird shot a nine-over par 153 (83-70).
TEAM: Stan State, who were receiving votes in this week's NCAA Division II/Bushnell Men's Golf National Rankings, finished in a tie for sixth place with Colorado School of Mines each with 578 (+2).
TOP THREE INDIVIDUALS: Colorado Christian's Adam Duncan captured the Hot Dirt with a 12-under par 132 (65-67). Finishing tied for second place each with a ten-under par 134 was Cal State East Bay's Easton Hether and Colorado School of Mines' Cole Beyer.
TOP FIVE TEAMS: Colorado Christian, who is number one in the nation, captured the team title with a 35-under par 541. Colorado Mesa shot an eighteen-under par 558 to finish in second place. One stroke behind the Mavericks was Cal State East Bay with a 17-under par 559. Rounding out the top five were Hawai'i Pacific in fourth with a 570 followed by Washburn with a 576 in fifth.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will finish off their trip participating in the The Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate this Sunday-Monday, March 23-25. The first two days of the Collegiate will take place at the Verrado Golf Club in Buckeye, Ariz. The final day will be hosted by the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz. Stan State will be paired with Washburn, Hawai'i Pacific, and Saint Martin's. Their first tee off will be at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
